Any which way you listen to this classic 1954 Reiner/Chicago disc, it remains a unique, mind-blowing experience, as much by its conception, the quality of the orchestral playing, as by its sonic impact, which puts - fifty years after date - many ulterior digital recordings to shame: in every instance one will be hard-pressed to find a more satisfying coupling of these two Strauss works.

To be recommended without any reservations.

These gorgeous recordings by Reiner still sounds so fresh and vivid. This CD is a living document of what true music making means. The way Reiner creates maximum drama and profundity in the music without exaggeration is amazing. Sound is incredibly real and present! A must-buy for any serious collecters, alongside Reiner's outstanding recording of Pathetique Symphony (Reiner conducts Tchaikovsky).

Very good service from amazon.co.uk for this valuable classical SACD from Living Stereo. The original analogic stereo recordings made in 1954 were already good, and this SACD is really of worth in reporting these fine performances. Highly Recomended.
