4.0 out of 5 stars MS Fingerprint Reader: good,but....., 7 Jun 2005
My fingerprint reader arrived in under two days, fast delivery as allways from amazon uk, it came well packaged and was in perfect condtion. After setting it up i soon found out just how convenient it was, no more remembering long passwords and having to type them in every time you visit a website for which you have an account. The user logon function is great, when you want to log on all you do is touch the fingerprint reader, unauthorized users have no chance of getting on your windows account using the technique of "Shoulder Surfing", we've all seen it: people look over your shoulder as you type you password and they have access to your windows account...not with the Microsoft fingerprint reader.

It does have it's faults though:

No firefox support (There should be since firefox no has 18% of the browser market)

It tends to get dirty easily due to the rubber coating on the glass and is difficult to clean with regular cloths, my suggestion would be cleaning it with a lint free cloth soaked in some water, this ensure the glass doesnt get scratched or too dirty to scan your fingerprint

There should be a unauthorized logon attempt log, if a user were to try and logon with an unauthorized fingerprint the computer shiuld lock and be unable to operate unless an authorized user unlocks it

Despite the few bad points this is a great product, well recomended for the geek in all of us :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fingerprint Recognition is the new thing!, 7 Dec 2004
Recieved mine yesterday and was suddenly astonished with all it could do! It remembers you login details for any webpage so when, in the future, you need to logon, simply place you finger on the Fingerprint Reader, and voila! you've signed in. It also lets you logon to windows with only a fingerprint! It's worth the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ms FingerPrint Reader (POD), 11 Jun 2005
I received this last Thursday. I have to admit I was amazed with how easy it was to setup. Simply stick the CD in first then plug the reader via USB.
Immediately when you are on a website with a password request put your finger on the POD and a password manager box appears put the details once. After that everytime you visit that page "finger it" and you are in.
Its very clever i tested its security with other fingers "no can do" it works by 4 scans per finger when registering them so there is no way to fool it! I gave this 4 out of 5 because it would be nice to use FireFox as well but I am happy nonetheless.
