Trolls and Goblins ..., 3 Dec 2007
'Troll'
Brief synopsis:
~ The Potter family move into a new apartment building. Harry Potter Sr. [Michael Moriarty], Harry Potter Jr., and Wendy Potter [Harry Jr's sister] soon suspect that there is something amiss within the building. An old troll - Torok - wishes to restore thw world back to that in which he once lived in. He has chosen the apartment block as a base to work his black magic from. His ex-wife - a kindly witch called Eunice St. Clair - with the help of young Harry - attempts to prevent Torok from using Wendy's body as a conduit to begin transforming the tenants one-by-one into hideous creatures ~
'Troll 2'
Brief Synopsis:
~ In this sequel, the Waits family move to a half-deserted town [Nilbog - Goblin reversed] in order to obtain better quality food. The goblins - not trolls in this one - quickly tempt the family with their own unique food covered in a green gunge. Young Josh subsequently attempts to save the family from the evil Goblin Queen ~
I'm giving this disc a review 4/5 to average out the double feature therein: Troll, 5 stars; Troll Sequel, 3 stars. Both films contain the needed ingredients for a 80s B-movie comedy horror - poor acting, trashy dialogue, sub-average plot and poor special effects. Incidentally, 'Troll 2' has since gained cult status, overshadowing the first film to the extent of having its own website and screamiers in picture houses across America even today.
I still think that 'Troll' has the edge over its counterpart, mainly because it stars Micheal Moriarty, king of the comedy~horror [see A 'Return to Salem's Lot', 'It's Alive 3', 'Q: The Winged Serpent' and 'The Stuff']. It also [attempts] to embrace a more mystical or magical ideology, that of the classic fairytale where a young hero battles evil monsters. As a child I loved the idea of another world - a verdant forest - lurking just behind one of the doors within the Potter's flat. Think of those other 80s greats like 'Neverending Story' and 'Labyrinth' --- not quite as accomplished yet a valiant effort nonetheless.
Amusing as it is, the comedy in 'Troll 2' is often unintentional, its laughs emerging from the film's poor plot and ridiculous ideologies - one being a new take on goblins as vegetarians, but veggies with a twist, for they encourage humans to eat their special food which turns them into vegetables so the goblins can devour them [Christina Rossetti would have had a field day]. A feature length documentary about 'Troll 2' is currently being filmed and is titled 'The Best Worst Movie'. Michael Stephenson, child star of the film, is behind the camera for this effort. Personally I think this film is a testament to the endurance of the modern film buff. You decide.
If you enjoyed 'Critters 1-4', 'Ghoulies 1-4' and 'Gremlins 1 & 2', you'll love 'Troll' and probably endure its evil twin.

only troll 1, 15 Mar 2009
the five star are only for troll the first which is brilliant ,mixing comedy, horror , fairy tale , and great actors
i once watch it 20 years ago or so on vhs to rent and i still remmeber so well that i bought it on dvd recently and it s a classic ,a great movie with great scene like when the lil girl screm rat burger and the dad dance on summertime blues and all the magical scenes are exellent even you can tell it s muppets but all in all it work "fantastic"
now a word on troll 2 please don t even watch it it s more bad than the worst movie you ever saw, the actors are lame ,the dialogue has been made by some vegetable , it change from the genre fairy tale horror to horror gore but don t succceed even in that field the blood is green and does not impress (well it might chock u salad) the story isn t at the level of a worst horror movie ...my guess is if it s the same director who film the sequell he probably catch the elzeimer desease plus the parkinston desease or maybe he had some poker debt to reumbousre very fast any way you get the same muppet if i remember (actually i try not to remember) but the effect is horrible yes it s an horror film in the real sense
so yes watch the troll one but avoid troll 2 with all your will
you ve been warn

Fantasy with a twist of horror, 3 Feb 2009
Two great movies finally packaged together.
Troll: I first saw this when I was about eleven years old and I loved it. So when I saw it (10 years later) for sale on Amazon I had to buy it. Not sure whether i'd still find it as entertaining and creepy, I sat down to watch it, somewhat apprehensively. Anxious that my fond, nostalgic memories of it would be lost if it wasn't as good. I needn't have worried, within minutes I was glued to the screen, back in the world of the Trolls where I had been a decade before. It's a classic fantasy, with an inkling of horror. It has fantastic characters and make-up, with an inventive and magical story. If you like films such as Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Legend or willow with a little bit of Critters thrown in, then you will love this. It will especially appeal to younger teenagers, but I think most ages who appreciate the genre will enjoy it.
Troll 2: This doesn't have quite the same charm to it as its predecessor. Whereas Troll was Primarily fantasy, Troll 2 goes towards the Horror path. It is still a very good movie which is worthy of being made unlike many sequels. However, if you loved Troll, you may be slightly disappointed with the change of styles. It is still good fun, but there is just a bit more malice and intent in this sequel. Whereas, the previous was suitable for a slightly younger audience this one isn't. It could almost be a Troma movie with the excessive usage of green gunk. It is also a bit reminiscent of Swamp Thing style movies: people turning into plants. It is original and it is fun and the fact that you are even looking at this page means that you are obviously the type of person who enjoys this type of film, so all I can say is buy it.
