5.0 out of 5 stars Genuinely Creepy!, 18 Oct 2004
By A Customer
This game is a must for fans of the pointy-clicky adventure. For me it had a simliar feel to the original Myst game with its first person view point and strange, evocative settings. Although there are plenty of the standard codes, puzzles and secret compartments, the game's real strength is the ingenious plot , which takes place in the past, present and future. Best played in the dark with the volume turned up, you will be surprised by just how much the spooky sound effects unsettle you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Fall 2 for chilly winter nights!, 25 Sep 2004
Dark Fall 2, the sequel to 2003's "Dark Fall: The Journal".

What makes a game scary?

Having played through this game, I can happily say that XXv Productions know exactly how to make scary adventure games. This game packs scares, thrills and exploration into a tightly knit story, with gorgeous artistic graphics, and puzzles galore.

Created by UK games developer, Jonathan Boakes, this worthy sequel follows the exploits and adventure of a young map maker exploring the Cornish Coast. A local legend leads him to the rock based Lighthouse of "Fetch Rock". It is here that three lighthouse keepers have disappeared without trace.

Using time travel, ghost hunting gadgets and your wits the story unfolds one creepy chapter after another. There is far more to this mystery than just the hauntings (which, by the way, are done very effectively), as the past interferes with the future, and visa-versa. One huge bonus, included in this chilling tale, is the ability to explore the same location in various time periods, and movements of the day. It is fascinating to see how we treat the buildings of old, and that the dead do not like to give up their homes as easily as we might like.

Graphically the game is stunning, with artistic endeavour ploughed into each screen, presenting a spooky world for us to explore. This is backed up by the sound design, which, I am not ashamed to admit had me glancing around the room on several occasions, if only to check the moans and whispers were not in the real world with me.

At under £20, this game is a must for adventurers and ghost story fans. With parallels to films like Blair Witch, and TV like MostHaunted, I can promise you will not be disappointed.

Don't have nightmares!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Game!, 3 Jan 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Well I would have to say that I really enjoyed this game and would definitely recommend it to any adventure player. It is well balanced between game play, realistic puzzles and story line. As good as part 1 the Journal if not even better! Journey back and forth in time around the lighthouse and see if you can correct some of the changes that have happened and explore the changes that have happened over time. Rather spooky at times. Keep your pen and paper handy and take notes on everything. Read all the notes you find (even though quite long at times) as there are some very important answers in there. If not critical then they add to the story line. Well worth it! Good Luck...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not For me
I loaded this game and to be honest it made NO impact. It seemed to be mainly set in the dark from what I played. Graphics and sound were fine. Not my type of game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Addictive, interesting, flawed.
I enjoyed this game. The puzzles are logical; it's big, but easy to get from A to B. Its intriguing plot has you captivated and guessing, so it's addictive. Read more
