4.0 out of 5 stars world premiere recording of Ferneyhough Violin piece., 27 Sep 2005
The central items on this disc are the Berio Sequenza V111,Brian Ferneyhough Intermidio and most noteworthy of all the world premiere recording of Unsichchtbare Farben by the same composer.The work's material is derived from the tenor of Ockeghem's Missa Caput and the very opening paragraph is endearing on account of it's close proximity to the Ockeghem.Thereafter,the older composer seems to be half viewed amidst excitable flourishes and febrile twitterings.It's an enjoyable twelve minutes particularly in Hemmi's rendition which is always attentive to Ferneyhough's extraordinary melodic sense-try the almost comical musings at 02:11!

Of the less familiar composers featured on the disc i was was particularly struck by Keiko Harada's beautifully shaped Labyrinth X which gives yet further opportunities for Hemmi to display his wide range of colours from needle sharp pizzicato to furtive tremelos.

Additionally,there are brilliantly engaging programme notes by Carl Rosman and an Intriguing cover showing the handsome soloist in martial arts poses.
