Manufacturer's Description

Knights of Honor is developed by Bulgarian based Black Sea Studios and represents a new type of strategy game. It sets players in the warring realms of mediaeval Europe, where they are challenged to become rulers of the whole continent. SUNFLOWERS is working collaboratively with Black Sea Studios to bring gamers a renewed gaming experience. In addition to strategies like war, diplomacy and the creation of a flourishing infrastructure for civilisation, players can gain the allegiance of knights possessing special abilities, to further grow their kingdoms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Addictive, 12 Oct 2004
By A Customer
This is the most addictive game I have played in a long time, it's basically like Civ3 (diplomacy, trading, war, but without the turn taking as in Civ3) except you can go in and control your battles. People are bound to complain about the graphics because it's a new game and still in 2D. But that doesn't take anything away from it, as the artwork is excellent and beautifully done.

There's a few things that needed to be sorted out in the patches, like some diplomacy issues that aren't as realistic as it could be, but hopefully this will be something they fix. However it is still fun.

I think this game is going to suffer in sales against Rome Total War, and it's a shame because I found this to be more enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars solid, enjoyable and bug free!, 19 Sep 2005

Knights of Honor is probably one of the best of its bunch in this genre. Also this game plays without any apparent bugs - more than can be said for many current releases! Along with Medieval Total War, which was ahead of its time, if you are interested in the period, then this is recommended. The strategy aspect is very good and quite hard to achieve success in. The 3D gameworld is beautifully rendered, with perfect little fortresses, farms, harbours, monastries etc. You can lead your troops into battle personally, or watch the engagement fight out on the 3D map, complete with little unit representations knocking seven bells out of each other! The unit choice is around 100 differant types, with all manner of foot, horse and seige units available - although of course you always start with those humble peasants!
My only gripe about the battle-view is that you only have limited views of what's going on, almost a 2 dimensional aspect seen from one side only, which surprised me because many older releases allowed you to look at your battles "all around" from differant angles. You just seem to be able to go from left to right. This doesn't detract from the campaign game at all though, and I guess a battle view is better than none at all.
You will probably find the battles quite tough too, I've been hammered a view times! The secret is to use the excellent feature where you can send your Marshall from his fortress city to a mercenary encampment nearby. You will see them come and go throughout the game. Here you may hire (providing you have funds) some better quality units. This is a brilliant little touch - and historically accurate too. One of the best ways to raise money is by capturing a noble following a battle success -his province will pay a good ransom to get him back!
The biggest problem in achieving success here is hanging onto your gains! Its very hard to spread your forces to cover several provinces without spreading them too thin, the answer - make alliances of course! Its almost impossible to succeed going it alone.
All in all a cracking little game which gives you an excellent taste of medieval europe.
