5.0 out of 5 stars Transport Tycoons is back!, 5 Jan 2005
By M. Frost "Frosty" (Liverpool) - See all my reviews

Wow! It's great! ok it has a few areas that take a bit of getting used to, a few things that ttdlx had and this doesn't (like company buy outs for example), and the construction interface is different, but this actualy allows you to do so much more! You can do overhead railways, underground systems, all kinds of new stuff! The games certainly changed, at first I thought too much...but I can see now that change has made it better!
It's extremely playable, addictive, and enjoyable. Family friendly and great fun!
Plus you can download a patch from the net and put a photo of yourself as the manager! And you can set a different photo for different moods as your financial situation changes! Fantastic!
They have removed some of the old glitches that let you trap competitors buses on a small strip of road by deleting the road around it and trapping ships in a lagoon by raising land around them..which is sort of a shame!!!! :-)
If you liked transpor tycoon and you can't play it anymore because you upgraded Windows, then get this...its amazing!
Frosty

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed views..., 9 Nov 2004
The other reviewers have pointed the features of the game, and its short-comings - primarily that its really Transport Tycoon in a form which runs smoothly on XP.

I agree that when I first started up the game I too was disappointed that things hadn't moved forward a great deal, and in some areas backwards - not sure how well the Rollercoaster Tycoon interface works with this game especially with track building.

But to take another view at the game it is still addictive, and simple enough in concept, and operation to enable the game to be dipped in and out of - no 200 page manual and 40 key combinations required here!

At the end of the day if you're into strategy games, and aren't looking for 3D graphics, surround sound, and multi-player facilities then you can't go too far wrong with this game.

Looking forward - how about passing this game over to the Frontier team for a bit of spit and polish just like what has happened with Rollercoster Tycoon?!

4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive but poor multiplayer...., 16 Sep 2004
By Mr. Jonathan C. Morley "jonny211" (newbury) - See all my reviews

Being a big fan of Transport Tycoon (still playing it today) I was looking forward to this update version - sorry, I meant new game.

It still has everything TT had but the graphics have slightly improved as has the track and road building, routes are now far more flexible to build, can be raised without deforming the landscape and can be mind bending to look at. If your familiar with rollercoaster tycoon it's pretty similar.

Gripes are the lack of proper multiplayer, only 2 can go head to head which is a bit naff. Also the signalling for trains seems to get itself lost.

Apart from that it's a great game for Sunday afternoon and a bargain at that.
