Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Shade is an action-adventure-horror game played from the third person view. It is not only about shooting enemies, the players will find themselves having to pick their brains for the answers to the mysteries of the game.

The incredible storyline will push the player forward into uncharted territory, encountering enemies that the likes of no man has ever seen before. The player will need the will of human nature to survive. Using survival techniques, planning ahead and of course taking hold of some serious weapons will be the only way to progress.

As the story unfolds, our Hero embarks an intrepid adventure across 4 alternative words; the Present Day, Middle Ages, Ancient Egypt and The Shadow Land, where nothing is what it seems as you solve puzzles and battle Demons, Angels, Zombies, Mummies, Rats, Shadows and much, much worse.

Different weapons available throughout the game will give the player a nice variety of choices, while on their journey across over 30 levels, coming up against over 20 different kinds of enemies.

The Shade engine is very effective at displaying all the high quality graphics the designers envisioned. Giving Shade the ability to shock and scare the player senseless. The engine capabilities are a very long list that will excite even the most hardcore gamers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Another console style PC game, 3 Oct 2004
By A Customer
I`ve been looking for a good 3rd person action/adventure game for a while and this promised lots. Unfortunately it delivers little. Firstly the lack of a quicksave option and the reliance on checkpoints ruins the game as you are left replaying entire sections over and over. Worse still is that these parts you have to replay are often little more than hack and slash with an oddly controlled combat system. The checkpoints consist of platforms that look out of place in the medieval style environment. When you stand on one to save a silvery statue is left. Why? I have no idea. Seems a pointless feature to me. A simple, traditional save your game at any point would have been far better and made the game playable.

The controls are odd for a PC game. Walk/sprint toggle is assigned to the mouse wheel! Bizarre! Works OK but when you want to quickly change weapons I want to be able to use the mouse wheel for this like 99% of other games. The result is that combat situations are very clumsy as you fumble with the keyboard for the right weapon. The combat system is typically woeful for a PC hack and slash.

Graphically the game is a little dated although there are some nice environments. Sadly however, the inadequate checkpoints, clumsy controls destroy what cold have been a very good game. If you enjoyed the last Indy game on PC you`ll like this as it`s quite similar or if you like repetitive hack and slash games. Tomb Raider it aint.

If you`re looking for a good 3rd person game that requires some thought play Thief: Deadly Shadows.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh Dear, 13 Oct 2004
I was really looking forward to this game and had high hopes for it, since this genre is under-represented in PC gaming. I (wisely) played a demo version of it, before shelling out, and am glad I did. Yes, the game has some nice graphical touches, but it just seems rushed and unfinished. Playability is severely hampered by graphical glitches, and environments seem claustrophobic and confined. You'll quickly get annoyed with the amount of locked doors that the game doesn't want you to go through, and the ubiquitous search for the key for the ones you can. Not one for the wish list, I think...
