1.0 out of 5 stars Good batteries, but very basic charger, 27 Sep 2004
By A Customer
I bought this package to provide power for a digital camera.

The supplied batteries are of a very good specification, perfectly adequate for the task in hand, but it is the charger which lets the package down.

According to the instructions, it takes 18 hours to recharge these batteries, there is no indicator to tell you when charging has finished, and you are instructed to turn off the charger as soon as the 18 hours have been completed, to avoid overcharging, and thus damaging, the batteries.

Other, more expensive, chargers are much quicker at charging (some doing the same job in under 2 hours), indicate when the batteries are fully charged, and switch themselves off automatically.

I like to recharge my batteries overnight when I'm on holiday so that I have a fully charged set for the following day's shooting. With this package, you can't do this due to the lengthy charging cycle, and you'd have to make sure that whenever you set the charger charging, you'd be there 18 hours later to switch it off again!

Given the low price of this package, perhaps I'm being unfair in my assessment, but I didn't realise that chargers could be this slow (shame on Amazon for not including a proper description) and I wish that I'd paid a bit more and got a more sophisticated charger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the price, 9 Nov 2004
This product is excellent if you require high spec batteries at a budget cost, okay it takes 18 hours to charge them but you get what you pay for. If you need them quickly spend £20 on a quick charger, if you don't this is a bargain.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get an electronic charger, 26 Mar 2007
By Mr. Paul S. Ruane "oniony" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This charger may appear 'cheap and cheerful' at first but it is a false economy and you will live to regret it (or, more likely, blame the batteries).

Years ago all chargers were manual like the one that comes in this package. The problem is the charger is 'dumb' and does not stop delivering current to the battery when it is full. This in turn damages the battery (some chemical reaction with which I am not familiar) and the batteries will last for less time. Repeat this a several times and you are destroying some fine high-capacity batteries -- leading to what used to be called the 'memory effect' where the batteries appear to have reduced capacity.

You'll be far better off by buying a charger that automatically shuts off when the batteries are cooked. It will cost less in replacement batteries, cause less waste and use less electricity. You can pick these up for around a tenner. Remember, it's not cheap because it's slower than other chargers, it's cheap because the charger is cheap to produce.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok as long as u dont mind a week to recharge
Good value - but honest this takes ages to recharge. (24hrs). As long as u go some extras it would be ok.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb!
Loses a star because they take 18 to charge and there's no cut off, but 2 batteries lasted a good 3 weeks in my digital camera.
