Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Nas is incredibly talented, and most of Street's Disciple is as impressive as anything he's done in the previous few years. He's still hip-hop's most compelling and sophisticated lyricist (sorry Eminem, Jigga), and more than a few tracks here burn with his verbal heat–-a flood of phrases and metaphors that inspire imagery as rich as in any movie. Though this album is twice as long as it needs to be, half of this double-CD set is truly hot. --Oliver Wang

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius at work, 16 Dec 2004
Nas is without a doubt the most talented rapper alive, and is definately up there with the greatest hiphop artists ever. That's why so much hype surrounded this album, and it's without a doubt worth the wait.

It's a double album, with each disc having it's own individual feel to it. CD One is quite political, and on tracks like the Kelis assisted 'American Way' he says exactly what he feels about the government. 'Nazareth Savage' contains some of the tightest lyrics ever spoken by Nas on record, and no Nas album would be complete without a dig at someone, and Kobe Bryant gets his treatment on 'These Are Our Heroes'. Nas also teams up with a brilliant female rapper Scarlett on tracks 'Sekhou Story' and 'Live Now'- two excellent tracks that link together.

CD Two has a more personal feel to it. It starts with a blast-'Suicide Bounce' featuring Busta Rhymes, and later he teams up with Ludacris for the brilliant 'Virgo'. Despite these high-profile guest rappers, none can match up to the flow that Nas shows on the album. This CD also contains the two singles 'Thieves Theme' and 'Bridging the Gap', and the highlight of the album 'War'- a very personal track with a strong chorus from Keon Brice.

CD One is Nas at his absolute lyrical best, and Nas fans will slightly prefer this CD to the second one for the lyrical skill shown. CD Two is still excellent and more emphasis is placed on the beats, even thought the lyrics are still amazing. The only two let-down tracks feature on CD2, which are 'No-one else in the room' and 'Me and You', but they're not awful and do not in any way damage an absolutely superb album.

Definately the greatest hiphop album brought out in recent years, and an absolute must-have for any hiphop fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Hip-Hop and it don't stop, 30 Nov 2004
This is the type of album that the world has been waiting for from the rapper once called Nasty Nas, were he shows the true power of the mic, that it's the voice for the reality of life. Tracks like Street's disciple and Thief's Theme take me back to them illmatic days, American way and these are our heroes expose the lies behind the smoke and mirrors, tracks like bridging the gap and suicide bounce show Nas at his most energetic and you have a feeling the man called Nasty Nas is back and found the passion that made most real hip-hop fans fall in love with rap. The albums is also well balanced and we go from his pains, his highs, his lows, his joys, his struggles and his love of hip-hop. Street's Disciple shows the power that rap can have just like illmatic did 10 years ago, "one Hot album every 10 years average", if true then this was worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nas takes it back to the realness, 14 Oct 2004
Street's Disciple is another classic from Nas, returning to his influences from the 'golden era' hip hop of the late 80's, streets disciple is an oldschool meets new school masterpiece mixing all types of genres. This blend of genre is most notable on the track "bridging the gap" featuring his father Olu Dara, in which Nas blends blues, jazz, soul and hip hop and creates a musical journey in which all music fans can appreciate. Other stand out tracks include the single "Theifs Theme" in which Nas speaks on his old life in the projects of queensbridge over the backdrop of a hypnotising Sallam Remi instrumental. "Nazareth Savage" is another stand out track on the album and arguably one of nas' best verses to date. The only criticism of the album is that Nas falls too deeply into making songs about his past life in the projects which creates the impression that Nas is trying to create another 'Illmatic' rather than moving forward with his music. But essentially, it is the reminiscant illmatic style songs that have made Streets Disciple a great album, so by looking backward to his roots, Nas may have moved forward to that next level that we all have been waiting for since 1994's masterpiece Illmatic.
