Writer and director Zach Braff does a masterful job matching the charming, heartfelt tone of films like The Graduate and Rushmore in his motion picture debut, Garden State, so it only makes sense that the music he personally compiled for the soundtrack plays just as of big a part here as it did in those films. Simon & Garfunkel's languorous "The Only Living Boy in New York" is an obvious thread, but aside from Nick Drake's "One of These Things First," Braff is able to carry the mood without getting tripped up in the past. Frou Frou's "Let Go" and Zero 7's "In the Waiting Line" supply soft techno touches, while Iron & Wine's "Such Great Heights" and former Men at Work singer Colin Hay's "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" offer understated angst. It's the pair of emotionally racked contributions from the Shins ("Caring Is Creepy," "New Slang"), however, that really make this compilation a must-have. --Aidin Vaziri

I bought the soundtrack before I saw the film - I kept trying to get to the cinema but the fates conspired against me. I liked the look of the CD so just went ahead and got that anyway. So I'd fallen in love with the music before I fell in love with the film. It works as a standalone compilation of music because it has such a consistent mood running through it. Unlike some compilations which may have great songs on them, but jar when they're up against each other.

I finally saw the film on DVD the other night, and it's made me appreciate this CD even more. They're both close to perfect for me.

I not only enjoyed the movie immensely but i have had the soundtrack for a few weeks now and still not sick of it. It's all i'm listening to. Great choices from The Braff, well done I say. Everyone i've played it to thinks it's ace, so i just had to say something here. A song for every mood. I'm gonna be buying the individual artists albums as soon as i get paid!

If, you've seen the film, as my friend below says, you'll have the soundtrack buzzing round your head. The solution is to get this album. It's awesome. Course then you'll be off buying Nick Drake , the shins, and frou frou..but hey (colin) it's a far better way of spending your money than, say buying U2's or Maddona's latest scratchings.
If you haven't seen the film, its good, if not spectacular. i'd buy the record and wait for the film on sky.
