This album has some fantastic moments of wonky funk, mostly at the beginning, and then gets rather formulaic and labours the point a bit. But it recovers at the end with Evoke An Object. It's sort of Mouse On Mars's Lovesexy, their previous experiments with dub, ska, krautrock, house, whatever's handy, rejected in favour of a playful but cohesive take on, for want of a better word, technofunk, with gorgeous soul-ish and disco-ish backing vocals and instrumental flourishes and enough detail to keep you grinning throughout. There first two tracks in particular have a hyper-Kylie sheen, Send Me Shivers is a bit regressive but lovely and Blood Comes has a fantastic build and release in the middle. The rest works the same template to less successful ends but isn't bad, by any means. Actually, Detected Beats is pretty bad, but one stinker out of nine tracks is good going. It's enough to make me want to listen to Instrumentals again.

The tracks on this album are dull and repetitive with a lack of ideas. The incoherent lyrics make no more sense when read off the liner notes. If you're under the influence of major sedatives you may like this. Maybe the people that made it were.
It provides little evidence of life on Mars, and should have been left there, or somewhere similarly far away.
