Amazon.co.uk Review
Instead of taking the sodden Glastonbury option, Jamie Cullum has chosen the comfort and grace of Live At Blenheim Palace for his summer 2004 festival documentary. This sprawling Baroque manor near Oxford provides an ideal setting for swooping, atmospheric camerawork, with the casually-attired Cullum acting as an incongruous focal point.

Jamie commands the stage space with a confidence that belies his tender years, ignoring the usual limitations of the performer's body. He's often found under the piano, or dancing on top of its lid, or even inside, using the entire instrument as a percussion tool. He's constantly running around the stage, interacting with his band, bounding down to shake hands with the front rows.

This is an exhaustive record of where Cullum's stage show currently stands. It's a lesson in how to entertain an audience whilst maintaining musical integrity. Jamie is modest about his jazz credentials but has excellent taste when recruiting his regular team of bassist Geoff Gascoyne and drummer Sebastiaan De Kromm. Cullum's horn section also boasts the presence of trombonist Barnaby Dickinson and saxophonist Ben Castle, two of the UK scene's brightest newcomers. The camerawork doesn't distract, but still has a dynamic sense, managing to keep track of Cullum's antics from a variety of quick-edit angles. There isn't much preamble, with the concert presented in straightforward manner. In-between each cluster of songs, there's a selection of documentary inserts, showing Jamie on tour in the USA, playing at Glastonbury, paying homage to the 1950s beat poets and meeting his (mostly female) autograph hunters. "I wonder if it's possible that I could touch your arse?," asks one, but we don't get to hear his reply. Extras include the trio busking in San Francisco (with no audience gathered, funnily enough), more Glastonbury footage, an excerpt from the South Bank Show special and the videos of "All At Sea", "These Are The Days" and "The Wind Cries Mary". --Martin Longley

Product Description
Filmed at his mammoth Blenheim Palace concert, extra features include a previously unseen video for "Wind Cries Mary", documentaries and footage of Jamie on the road.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was there and I bought the DVD...., 17 Nov 2004
I went to the gig (great seats near the front) and this DVD definately does justice to what was a fabulous experience. The sound quality is excellent as is the video recording. An exercise in great live camerawork. They have re-cut the whole thing, so what they showed on the screens at the event is different to this - so there is not so much of the visuals that another reviewer mentions, although you get a brief glimpse.

They have enhance the colours and lighting a bit I think which accentuates the dramatic sunset and captures the guys on stage all the better.

It has the option to miss out the documentary bits, although I found them quite interesting.

BUY IT.... Buy it NOW! Great Christmas present!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cullum captures Blenheim, 19 Aug 2005
By Bill Hancock (STOKE-ON-TRENT, STAFFORDSHIRE United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I was never a jazz fan but after hearing Jamie Cullum I began to take notice. I watched the 'Live at Blenheim Palace' DVD and was instantly converted! His renditions of old traditional classic songs turn them into NEW classics. The setting, the atmosphere and the shear talent of Jamie Cullum have changed my views of 'jazz'. My absolute favourite track is an 'Eleanor Rigby' style version of the classic Beachboys song 'God Only Knows'. I would never have believed that one of my all time favourite songs could have been re-styled so brilliantly. How someone so young has accumulated so much talent so quickly is beyond me. I don't even try to understand how he does it, I just sit back and enjoy every last minute of a superb performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best DVD I have EVER seen!, 17 Dec 2004
By A Customer
I thought Jamie Cullum was a jazz god when I heard his first CD (before he became famous). I have been desperately trying to see him, but keep missing him ever so slightly(twice in San Francisco, he cancelled Vienna, couldn't get to Germany in time). So I was ecstatic when I saw the DVD was out. It is the best music DVD I have seen. I was capitivated, couldn't move from the screen. You get a sense of his musicianship from the CDs, but until you see him and hear him play live, you can have no idea how talented this young man is. I can't believe a 20 something can improvise jazz piano with the best of them. Phrasing, style, technique, he has it all. And he is an amazing showman. On top of all, the photography/cinemetography is perfect. So many of these DVDs bounce all around showing you everything you just don't care about. If you want to see a real, serious musician and entertainer in action (and of course his highly talented trio +), they capture it all.

Buy it. You will be amazed.
