Im my view only 2 albums after Beginner's Guide have been worthwhile: Security of Illusion and House of Cards, but I keep on buying their releases. Network is a slight improvement on Marathon in that there are 3 decent tracks, but the rest is predictable filler. The production is flawed, vocals are inaudible sometimes and the drums just don't sound right. It all sees too cluttered. Sorry lads.

For those Saga fans disappointed with House of Cards and Marathon, Network is pretty much a return to form for the band. The first three tracks are classic Saga rockers, whilst the pace is slowed down somewhat for the next two tracks. What follows seems at first like a bit of a plodder, but then bursts into life with a fantastic guitar break followed by a rousing piano break. The last four tracks are the usual mix of rockers and ballads, and are all good solid stuff.

The band sound like they're enjoying themselves, and Ian Chrichton on guitar and Jim Gilmour on keyboards play some of their best stuff since Generation 13. New skinsman Christian fills Steve Negus' drumstool quite comfortably, though it would have been nice to hear something a little more adventurous.

Unlike the last two albums, the need to complete the 'Chapters' doesn't drag the album down, freeing Saga to start a new chapter in their illustrious history.

I really enjoyed this album it is not the classic old stuff but I thought better than the last project. Ian crichton is on top form as is jim gilmore. A good listen well worthy of a purchase....
