Product Description

Product Description

Mario has been turned into a ball and drawn into another dimension, and now pinball will never be the same! When Bowser kidnaps Peach and escapes to another dimension, a scientist uses his Spherifier to transform Mario into a ball and fires him after the fiend. It is just a pinball game, right? Hardly. It is a flipping adventure. Mario rolls through different worlds. Instead of performing his signature jump on enemies, Mario just steamrolls them in ball form.

Each pinball arena contains a door to the next level. You must shoot Mario into the door to open it and then shoot him through the door to advance to the next level. Of course, all your favourite baddies from the Mario universe stand in the way of Mario and the door. In some levels, Mario can roll through special openings to face a boss character or pick up bonuses. Every time you knock out a bad guy, it leaves behind a coin. With those coins, you earn points.

Toad also appears occasionally and hosts a shop where you can buy items. Buying an extra pipe is nice in times of need, or maybe you would rather have the mushroom to transform into a super Mario ball.

Mario can also earn other bonuses. Once you defeat enough opponents, a question mark sometimes appears in the middle of the level. Once Mario rolls into it, bonus items appear in a box. Press the A Button to win the item that appears in the box, like an extra pipe to keep Mario from rolling past the flippers. The item can even be something bad, such as a reduction in points. The controls are very, very simple. You just control the flippers at the bottom of the screen. However, the gameplay is so addictive that it is tough to stop once you get on a roll.

Manufacturer's Description

The new adventure sees Mario enter a new and exciting pinball world, his aim to capture his beloved Princess Peach - kidnapped by Bowser and taken to this other dimension. A scientist uses his 'Spherifier' machine to transform Mario into a ball and fire him off to destroy the fiend and save his love. Mario then enters the arena in which all the action commences, combining both adventuring and pinball together!

Players can choose their very own path through the varied environments of the Mushroom Kingdom, fighting off familiar enemies and collecting coins as they go. Each of the many environments, which range from a fairground to the countryside, have there own specific enemies for players to defeat and different features to explore. Players will encounter many all time classic Mario power-ups along the way, including the Super Mushroom, 1-Up Mushroom, Invincibility Star and Lightning Bolt. In true pinball style, the more enemies players fight off in quick succession, the more high scores they will amass.

Players can control Mario through a set of flippers that appear at the bottom of each arena. Each arena takes up a single screen but by flipping Mario into certain doorways players can open special exits leading them straight to a new Boss. Make sure Mario doesn't fall through the flippers though, as this will send him backwards in the game or even to his defeat.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so super, 8 Jan 2005
You could be lead to believe that, like Mario Golf, Super Mario Ball is an interesting spin on a classic game. These assumptions are incorrect. Super Mario Ball is at heart a Mario-themed Pinball game and Pinball only provides so much entertainment. Experienced gamers who have tasted games from all genres will find this title really rather dull but children, probably the product's target market, who have no experience like this will find it entertaining. The little twists Fuse Games did add only made this game gnaw at your patience even more.

A great title for someone's first game but not so for one who prefers their games over other hobbies.

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Not the most diverse pinball game for the DS/GBA but 100 percent better than the likes of Flipper Critters.

This is one of those pinball games that you'll play for probably 15-30mins at a time and that will be enough, but if you like collecting pinball games then it's worth having in the collection to play as and when you have that spare time.
