5.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to the movie!!, 23 Jul 2004
I was impressed with Blade II... Terminator 3 wasn't bad... Hellboy was the cat's meow...

I, Robot didn't really impress me when I began seeing trailers, and I was sure the score would be its saving grace, which is why I was hoping that anyone good would pick it up. After its release I realised: Marco Beltrami is really really good!!!!
It's difficult to even pick out favorite parts of the score, since the whole CD appeals to a variety of different genres. Somber themes of introspection and remorse are perfectly placed, while action cues vary between suspense and all-out mayhem. A few tracks that stand out are "Tunnel Chase" and "Spiderbots" for the action lovers, while "Dead Robot Walking" and "Roundup" will satisfy the more dramatic theme appreciators. The main titles are also worthy bookends to the score.

Beltrami is coming up in the world, and I for one will keep an avid eye out for anything he does in the future. For now though, this score is a must for any fan of good science-fiction scoring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not OST, 12 Nov 2006
By YuriBCN (Barcelona, Catalonia) - See all my reviews
Don't expect Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition'. As with many so called OST albums of late, this is NOT a soundtrack, but rather the score, i.e. new creation written specifically for the movie. It should therefore be considered contemporary classical music. As such, it is excellent, 5 stars, without a doubt!

4.0 out of 5 stars Minority Report meets The Day After Tomorrow!, 14 Aug 2004
That's quite a vague outline of what you're getting here but it is agreeable.
I loved the film and look forward to seeing it again. The score to I,Robot is good fun supplying interesting strings with varied percussion.I find 'Tunnel Chase','Purse Snatcher' and 'Main Titles' good to listen to because of the particular style used to create tension in them. There is a theme developed and re-used in many tracks which works well. There are definite moments of Minority Report here with string backing with the occaisonal drumming(inevitable for a film with so many similarities. When i first saw Spooner in the tunnel driving i had major flashbacks of Anderton's great escape.).The main action track is 'Spiderbots' which has great presence amongst the rest of the score but there is also thrilling music in many other tracks using blasts on brass and drums to create powerful music.
All in all a varied mixture of music which if you like John William's score to Minority Report and Harald Kloser's to The Day After Tomorrow then i'm sure you'll enjoy Marco Beltrami's work here.
An enjoyable listen.

A quite simply stunning score from young master, Marco Beltrami (born 1966). Dark and compelling, all Beltrami's minimalist flourishes are here - driving rhythm and pounding... Read more
