Paper shredders fall into five levels of security. Level 1 (lowest) to level 5 (highest) as defined in DIN 32757. For normal home use level 1 is acceptable. In an office/working environment a higher level cross cut shredder would be recommended, ie. level 2 or 3. Levels 4 and 5 are for sensitive or top secret documents.

I have bought two of these. The first jammed when shredding a large-ish batch...after about 50 sheets we got impatient and started putting several sheets through together and it jammed. I took it apart to try to fix it without success. I am now using the second one for single sheets of A4 and receipts etc and it is fine!

I agree with the review that it is great for light use and is strictly for home use. It definitely will clog up with more the one sheet of paper or with a piece of card or a photograph. If you have hundreds of bits of paper to do then burn them in the garden or take them to work. If you feel resistance when shredding then stop and reverse as the mechanism is lightweight. If a staple has got stuck then use a fine pair of tweezers. There are a couple of very fiddly little cog wheels in the mechanism so it is best not to take it apart unless it is a last resort.

This is a fine little shredder if you just shred the occasional standard weight letter, unfortunately mine broke when I sent a heavy weight card from a well-known supermarket advertising their wares (with my name and address all over it!) through it. The handle snapped... Beware.

This shredder works fine for very small scale shredding. Ideal to shred receipts etc. Can do single sheets of A4, but this would get time consuming if you have a lot. Read more
