High heeled electro YUM!, 23 Dec 2004
By A Customer
Is this techno-Goth...? Is this dance trance rock darkwave? Is this a pigeon-hole dodger? What I do know is that it is a great album by a band that you should certainly check out in a live capacity, not least for the vocals of singer Liz, who also does a nice line in very high heels!

A great debut album from a great band, 23 Dec 2004
Brighton-based Swarf successfully blend elements of electronic, goth and darkwave into a fresh sound perfect to dance or mosh to!Lead singer Liz Green's haunting vocals and the excellent production make this a must-have album. Stand-out tracks are "Supine", "Fall" and "Sorrow". "Subtext" is unbearably catchy and makes me want to get up and leap about in an embarrassing fashion as does "Motion"!

Seeing it all....., 2 Mar 2005
From the word go, the album screams out to be played as loud as possible....Vision is a mid-paced thumpy synth and programming driven dancefloor/goth smash - great opening track. The vocals are excellent, and continue so throughout the album. The whole thing is very well produced, and should appeal to anyone who likes the works of Giorgio Moroder, Siouxsie, and electronic music in general. Track two, Supine, is pacier than the first, whilst still retaining an intense atmosphere. 'Shadows' is next, and is a Numanesque haunting slowy, with ethereal vocals and majestic keyboards. 'Grey' is midpaced with a slight nod to John Foxx, in the keyboard dept..and why not...Swarf supported him a year or two ago, and when i saw them in Manchester they brought the house down.....i've never seen a support band get such a great reception, and deservedly so. My own personal favourite, 'Fall', is next....just a really great, fastdancey number but with hoards of great breathy kbd hooks, vocals, rhythm....superb. 'Sorrow' is next, attempting to change things a bit, with a slow pace, dark piano lines weaving, majestic string synths, and sweeping vocals. 'Subtext' is another corker....cheeky bass sequence keyboards, a little like Depeche Mode's Just Cant Get Enough, but much stronger of course. Great vocals and lyrics here, and a top thumping beat. 'drown' is another rousing dance kbd line driven affair, followed by 'motion', a clinical sounding, angular track, full of edge and dance arrangements, all of course supported by an agitated, full-on vocal performance. 'reflect' finishes the album, an unusual track, slower and more thoughtful, ghostly and whimsical. All in all, a very strong album, i can't recommend it enough. No-one i have played it to has disliked it, and i feel that with a slice of luck, and the right backing, Swarf could find their way into the hearts of many fans. Good luck to them, and thanks for a superb performance prior to John Foxx. While John and his sidekick Louis were excellent, it was the quality of Swarf that really made the night a success.
