Cream is one of the best known and loved club brands in the world. Back in the 90s it was one of the original Superclubs and has now been running for 12 years, during which time it's hosted just about every big name DJ's under the run including residencies from Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine and Fatboy Slim, plus DJ Tiesto (DJ Magazine's DJ of the year for the last 2 years) and Paul Van Dyke are residents at their hugely successful weekly night at Amnesia in Ibiza.

Cream Classics is a 3-CD collection of 50 of the greatest tunes that define the Cream era. This will be a delight to the tens of thousands of people who've experienced Cream over the years, plus an education to today's new army of house music fans.

This really is an absolute classic full chock-a-block with a great variety of club classics from the disgustingly infectious 'U Sure Do' to the slightly pop sound of Ultra Nate 'Free'. Some of this is really cheesy, but it is all enjoyable (not like all that wedding/60s/70s cheese). The overriding element throughout is that it is impossible to listen to this without:
a) breaking out in a stupid grin from ear to ear
b) reminiscing about the time that you first heard the tune/first danced to this tune, leading on to general deep and meaningfuls about how dance music has lost its way among all the heavy, bassy, electronic music.

This album is great. It will bring up old memories of the way clubs used to be; no attitude, just fun. The songs here show how despite developements in music, and the creation of new genres of music, any good old tune that raises a smile is a winner. These songs don't pretend to have any deep message in them; they were not created by DJs who try to explain the song with some long preambled story: they are just dancing tunes.

BUY IT. If any of the songs you recognise are your thing, I can guarantee that you will love all the songs here. Some, if you are like me, you will have loved and forgotten about long ago, but as soon as the intro to the song comes on you will just grin, and as soon as the vocal starts going you will stop what you are doing and sing along at the top of your voice.

A fun 'best of' dance anthems ranging from the early 90's to 1995 with a handful of later tracks thrown in, proving that dance music ain't what it used to be.
A lot of these tracks have appeared on Cream's compilations and dancefloor but beware if you are a trance fan, because the three discs only cover house music. As one of the superclub pioneers of the trance sound, it seems a little strange that they have ignored it on a compilation that boasts a collection of their 'classics'.
However, the tracks they collected here are mostly excellent.K-Klass' 'Rhythm is a Mystery' and Raze's 'Break for Love' still sound incredible and recent tracks like 'Salsoul Nugget (If You Wanna)' and 'Love Story' cut the mustard and fit in the mix nicely.
The tracks are mixed together, which loses the album one star for me, but its not because the mixing is bad...its just,well, a bit cheesy. I can't really explain, but when you hear Gat Decor's epic classic 'Passion' cutting into 'Free' by Ultra Nate, you will see what I mean.
Overall, a good compilation, scooping up all the best tracks from your 90's dance tapes gathering dust in the attic and doing so much better than other 'old skool' collections.
Although its all very very commercial, the album tracks simply wipe the floor with today's poor excuse for dance music. If you remember the music,im clearly preaching to the converted,but if you don't and you are a dance fan, have a listen and prepare to be impressed.

For those of us that were loving the Dance Scene in the early 90s to late 90s this is a trip down memory lane. Full of absolute classics that will remind you of why you loved it so much. From Alex Party to Billy Ray Martin, this album takes you back to when it was all about the music. Put this album and before you know it you will be back at Cream, on the stage looking out a packed club that was really having it and loving every minute of it - oh what happy memories.

Cream at Nation - while the club has gone - its' music lives on!
