This smart little trendsetter measures just 62 x 27 x 13 mm and weighs only 24 grams, but it is bursting with surprising technical innovations. Its bright blue backlit OLED display has a special coating that generates stunning luminosity and sharp contrast yet consumes very little power.

N10 users can choose between a series of different motifs for the display while it is in use effectively transforming a piece of technology into a trendy, ornamental neckchain. The built-in rechargeable battery delivers up to 12 playback hours and can easily be recharged via the USB port on your computer.

A built-in microphone produces very high quality digital voice recordings. The iriver N10 is available with either 128, 256 or 512 MB of memory.     I was pleasantly surprised by this little mp3 player. From the pictures, I didnt realise how small it actually is. The necklace design is quite catchy, although it would have been good to include a protective case for when you want to keep the player in your pocket.

    Looks wise, this has to be one of the smartest mp3 players around. Underneath the looks is a fairly basic player (it has no radio tuner, but has a voice recording function), but really, all that I wanted was something to hold a selection of songs on. I have around 160 songs stored on the 512 Mb version which is pretty impressive.

    My only complaint so far is that the iriver music manager has a few glitches on it, for instance after copying 5 albums onto the player, any further albums added wouldn't play for some reason. I got round this by using windows media player to copy tunes onto the player, which has worked fine. Pity a good player has been slightly spoiled by this flaw. I am sure there will be a download available on the iriver site to fix any glitches with their "music manager".

    Navigation is extremely simple and the sound quality is far superior to anything I've heard before. I would give this 9 out of 10, but 4 out of 5 seemed a little harsh when my only complaint involves the file transfer program.

    All in all, a superb item, well worth the money.

    1. Ultra-compact and lightweight.
    2. Easily pocketable or can be worn necklace-style.
    3. No battery charger required. Charge via USB socket.
    4. Latest firmware upgrade enables player to behave just like a removable flashdisk in WinXP, etc. i.e iriver music manager software is no longer needed to load/unload the player.
    5. Well built
