Synopsis
Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley return to create more excessive substance and human abuse in another season of Absolutely Fabulous. The BBC series has become a perverse favorite all over the world as Edina and Patsy continue in their inspired comedic debauchery. This season features eight new episodes with guest appearances by stars Kristin Scott-Thomas, Elton John, Minnie Driver, and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nooooooooo!, 5 April 2008
By Bianca White "bianc93" (Gosport, Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
I never thought I'd be typing this but Absolutely Fabulous Series 5 is far from good. There are some funny moments but the plots and characters have reached certain points that I think ruin the show.

Most notably, Saffy getting pregnant - The beginning of the end of the situation of this comedy. Having a child means Saffy is no longer part of that grotesque eternal triangle she unwillingly shares with Edina and Patsy. She'll be moving on with new priorities, bursting the bubble and wrecking the formula.
Secondly, everything about John, the father of Saffy's child, is just plain annoying. He is given nothing interesting to say and seems a very one-dimensional character. He's also played by a man (Felix Dexter) who is too old for Saffy and for the student dippyness he portrays. If Saffy was ever going to "escape" from Edina and Patsy, I would have liked it to be on a high note. The way it's been written, I want to slap Saffy for her poor decisions. Before you accuse me of being mean, think of how unkind Saffy is to her friend, Sarah. Lifelong chums and Saffy suddenly indulges in unforgivable spite towards her. Ok, this was Jennifer Saunder' fault as the writer and JS further crime is to subsequently depict Sarah as a stalker of Emma Bunton. Horrid.

I hate to say it, but the overall effect of this series is that we leave Ab Fab with everything sewn up the wrong way. I imagine big fans will want to buy this series in order to have the complete set but anyone thinking of buying for entertainment purposes may be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ab Fab is truly back, 18 Oct 2004

Soooo much better than the rather dismal fourth series. However, it still has a way to go if it ever wants to be as great as the first two series. Here's a review of all the episodes:

1. Cleanin' - A great episode to start on. Just ignore June Whitfield's pointless appearance. 4/5

2. Book Clubbin' - An episode that confirms that Ab Fab is back on top. Absolutely hilarious especially Edina's reaction to a mixed-race baby.

3. Panickin' - Another great ep. Not as hilarious as the last but still fun.

4. Huntin', Shootin' and Fishin' - Probably one of the few episodes this series that isn't as funny as it would like to be. But still fun is to be had. Especially when Edina 'kills' a bird. 3/5

5. Birthin' - Very messy episode. African John's presence ruins the whole episode. It's got some funny moments though. 2/5

6. Schmoozin' - Not as messy as the previous ep but Elton John's appearance is bewildering. 3/5

7. Exploitin' - Starts off on a high but sadly slows down. Still a funny ep though. 4/5

8. Drinkin' - Remiscent of Series 2, this episode is the most difficult to like. You might disapprove of it first time round but give it another go - you might like it a little better. 3/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best but still fantastic, 29 Oct 2004
By A Customer
This isnt the best series of Ab Fab, but it does annoy me when people say that the first 3 series were the best. Series 4 in my opinion was the best - just because the show had changed slightly over time (which was going to be a natural development) people began to say it had run out of steam. But series 4 really was full of gems and i would urge you to buy that series along with series 2 to see what Ab Fab is like at its best.
Series 5 certainly doesnt match series 4, but there are still some fantastic moments - Exploitin and Cold Turkey are undoubtedly the best episodes. The only pointless episode was Panickin which produced very few laughs. Generally however, theres just enough laughs to keep u thoroughly entertained!
