More vampire shenanigans from the master of gothic atmosphere Jean Rollin. If there is one thing that Rollin does better than anyone else in his films its producing some fabulous eerie and dreamlike atmosphere. This film is of course no exception. In fact I think it is more about atmosphere than plot. A young honeymooning couple stop for the night at a castle. Unbeknownst to them, the castle is home to a horde of vampires. This leads to ample amounts of nudity and soft-core lesbian vampire action. Although very Low-budget and thin on plot, I did thoroughly enjoy this film. But I must say that I found the two lead make Vampire's over camp. Also the cheesy psychedelic rock score seems really out of place. But any gripes can be forgiven because Rollin muse Marie-Pierre Castel gets a small role as a Maid. And thankfully she gets a generous amount of mostly naked screen time.

Strange and compelling eurotica from the early seventies featuring scantily clad lovelies, a groovily psychedelic soundtrack and some intriguing cinematrography. I must confess I lost the plot thread at one point but I don't think it spoiled my enjoyment that much. If you don't like films featuring French lesbian vampires then give it a miss! (The one that emerges from the grandfather clock at midnight is my favourite).

By Hywel James VINE VOICE on 3 Dec. 2009
Format: DVD
Had this movie been made by a team of GCSE Media Studies young people it would have merited perhaps two stars for a good try. But it was actually made by what I understand is a "cult" director from France and as such it gets a thin and rather pallid one star for a dismal effort. The cast move, very slowly and without ever smiling, around a ruined chateau, wearing the kind of clothes that camp antiques dealers used to affect in the 1970's: velour bell-bottoms, lots of beads and gauzy blouses. The women wear very little and what they do manage to clasp to their ample bosoms gets regularly tugged away by the importunate (and unfortunate) undead.

The cinematography creaks, the dialogue is either non-existent (the female vampires) or ludicrously pretentious cod-philosophy (the main men), and the music is provided by the same Media Studies rock group who might (given the chance) have made a better job of the film first time around.

No, this movie is bloodless and hopeless!
