8-ink ChromaPLUS: for a far wider colour range
Canon's exclusive 8-ink ChromaPLUS photo system ensures far fresher, warmer colours for all your work, capturing hues that conventional 6-colour printers cannot match. Additional red and green inks expand the colour spectrum significantly - strengthening saturation in the red, orange and green areas and achieving a colour range comparable to positive film. Also Canon's advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology" ensures superior clarity and accuracy. Time-saving speed
The i9950 is ultra fast printing a full A3 photo in approximately 65 seconds. PictBridge ready plus complete creative control
Print directly from any PictBridge or Bubble Jet Direct compatible digital camera or camcorder and enjoy fast, efficient and easy photo printing, without the need for a PC. A comprehensive suite of photo imaging software includes ZoomBrowser and PhotoRecord to make storing and printing digital photos a simple, seamless process. Plus you can print directly on CD-R/DVD disks.

Waste-free single inks

I needed a printer that would print good quality A3 photos as well as the occasional document. This printer fulfilled all my expectations and more. It was very easy to set up, with a well presented user guide and all the ink supplied in the box. It is quite big but it can do all kinds of pages, from 4*6 photo paper all the way up to A3+. It even prints direct onto printable CDs with the enclosed adaptor. (The US equivalent i9900 does not print on CDs).
I find it very easy to use, much easier than the two Epson printers that I have previously owned. I do not have to waste ink constantly cleaning the print head because of banding problems (unlike certain other printers). The separate ink cartridges are also reassuring in that I won't have to waste money replacing ink that hasn't run out.
There are many settings on the print driver. Two of the most useful are for duplex printing and printing 2 or 4 pages on a single sheet. It is also quiet and very fast. It even has a 'quiet' mode, which I haven't tried because normal mode is almost silent anyway.
The software has never crashed and it has always delivered exactly what I expected. It's very pleasant to own a computer device that is so predictable.

I have been reading the reviews for some time, and bought this printer two months back, expecting great things from the reports. Nothing though could have prepared me for the quality, speed, and quietness of this printer. I use a digital SLR camera, and even A3+ photos (13ins x 19ins) take about 2 minutes to print. The quality, as my title infers, is as good if not better than a studio or high street shop can do, all without leaving the home. Whether printing at 300 pixels or 72, the photo is good, but obiously the higher the compression the greater the quality. 8 ink tanks, and as usual it is the cyan and the blue that run out first, but this means that overall the printer is very economic since you aren't replacing a multicolour cartridge just because one colour has run out, wasting the rest. Borderless prints also make for impressive quality.

All in all, if you are into serious photography and want or need a wide carriage printer, you won't be disappointed. I would caution you though to buy Canon Pro paper for the best results - I have tried others and the results aren't as good.

I have always used Epson printer even though you can use half your ink unclogging the print heads. When I came to change my Epson 895 for an A3 printer, I went for the Canon due to all its positive reviews, and how correct every one is.

OK its over £400 but you get what you pay for. I scanned a negative from an SLR camera and took the same negative to PRO lab to be printed to A3. When I compared the results the print I done with the i9950 was far sharper, brighter and more colourful that the one done by the lab. I brought a pack of 10 Canon professional A3 paper for £19, the "pro" lab charged me £13 for doing just one print, do the maths!

The printer is well constructed and easy to use. The software and drivers all work with fantastic ease.

I have started using generic inks as a full set of canon inks will set you back £75. A full set of generic inks cost £13, I can tell you that when you compare a cannon ink print to a generic ink print they are exactly the same. I have tried using different papers and I will recommend using the Canon photo paper with this printer, it is by far the best beating any Kodak, Epson or HP.
