5.0 out of 5 stars The only one to buy if you like 100% wholemeal bread, 12 Aug 2004
By A Customer
I had a nagging feeling that I should have gone for this one in the first place. I have been making my own bread by hand for ages, but I'm often very short of time so it can be a bit of a drag, so I finally came round to the idea of trying a breadmaker. I tried a (cheaper) alternative first but failed to produce a decent wholemeal loaf with many attempts; I even tried friend's models as well but still no success - the results were cake-like and always collapsed to some degree, you could toast it or give it to the birds. In the end, the birds became too fat to fly off the lawn so I decided to try the Panasonic SD252 (the SD253 doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere and I thought I could live without the automatice nut dispenser...) I got a perfect 100% wholemeal loaf first time and you can actually get a lighter texture (so better for sandwiches)than you would if you did it by hand.
I'm sure the other breadmakers are fine if you only bake white bread but in this case you get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Bread, 23 Feb 2005
By Mr. R. J. Burns "Ray Burns" (Chelmsford, Essex , United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Sitting at work at lunchtime I was browsing on Amazon, as you do, just following links to see where it took me. It took me to the Panasonic breadmaker. I was eating a sandwich at the time made from shop bought bread, the kind of pappy stuff that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Reading the reviews of the Breadmaker made me do two things, first I threw the sandwich into the bin, second I ordered the Breadmaker. Ordered on Thursday, it arrived on Saturday, by Saturday evening we had a beautiful loaf of home made bread.
Since then we've made about three loaves a week for our own consumption, and one for my wife's dad.
This has got to be one of the best buys we have ever made. We've found that our favourite bread is made with Dove's Organic Strong White flour, sometimes we make it with about 20% wholewheat flour for a change.
I don't think we'll ever buy a loaf from a shop again - after all ours tastes better, and we know what goes into it.
Do yourself a big favour and buy this now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars great breadmaker, 7 Oct 2004
Just purchased panasonic SD252 breadmaker Via amazon, it was much cheaper than buying elsewhere and arrived in 5 days. So far we have made 3 loaves. they were very easy to make following the instructions. you just put in the ingredients and switch on. then 4 hours later you get a great tasty loaf.
If you are not bothered about nut dispensers then get this one. it has many features if you wish to make other types of bread but most of the time its simpler just to do a normal loaf.
you can set the timer so its ready when you want. easy to clean too.
