4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the football was..., 4 Aug 2004
By M. J. Martin "mjefm" (Kirkbymoorside, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There have been so many international tournament "Official Review" videos in the last decade that it would take incompetence on a cataclysmic scale to make a poor video. This title has quite extensive highlights of every match, including every single goal - which is to be expected - so its quality depends largely on how good the football was.

Euro 2004 will be remembered as an entertaining tournament in which reputations were both made (Rooney, Baros, Cassano, Charisteas) and lost (Beckham, Raśl, every other Italian except Cassano). There were some outstanding goals from Maniche, Baros, Zidane, Rooney, Larsson and Tomasson, but these highlights videos come into their element with the classic matches, of which Euro 2004 had its fair share. If you can bare some of the bore-draws (Croatia v Switzerland, Germany v Latvia, Denmark v Italy), there are some fantastic matches to be revisited, especially the Czech Republic's heroic comeback to beat Holland 3-2, and France's lucky escapes against (sob!) England and Croatia.

The commentators featured are Martin Tyler, Ian Darke, Jon Champion, Gary Bloom and Peter Brackley, who are all tolerable at worst, although the video loses its fifth star for not pulling out the stops and getting the actual TV commentaries. Tyldesley and Robson on ITV were a hoot, whilst Davies on Motson on BBC were as great as ever. Pity, but it doesn't spoil a great video.
