Manufacturer's Description

The legendary commandos return in the first person shooter Commandos: Strike Force.

In a new direction for the multi-million selling series, Commandos: Strike Force takes you right into the heart of the action from a first person perspective. Take control of the three members of the 'Strike Force' unit, each with their own play style. Switch between the Green Beret, always at the heart of the action with his expertise in combat and the use of heavy weaponry, the Sniper with his nerves of steel and expert marksmanship, and the Spy, stealthily striking at the heart of the enemy. However, it is up to you how you execute plans of attack by combining the Commandos' unique skills.

Set in war torn Europe amid the backdrop of World War II, you must take your elite group of Commandos behind enemy lines on a series of linked missions through France, Russia and Norway. Destroying a Nazi ship, ambushing enemy troops, freeing French Resistance prisoners and kidnapping a general are a few of the large range of missions. As well as a compelling single player campaign, the game features a variety of original online multiplayer modes. In the most fearsome war ever fought emerged the most fearless soldiers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone!, 18 April 2006
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I have long been a fan of games like Hitman, Navy Seals, Black and freedom fighters and this game honestly has elements of all of this. It has the stealth approach of Hitman/ Splinter cell when you are playing as SPY, though still with the option of going mental when Plan A fails. Whilst as the GREEN BERET you can be as blunt as you like and as destructive as possible. The SNIPER role offers you the intereaction of sniper modes on the games above (think conflict series), but without being as serious as Sniper elite. I have only played a few levels though already got the gist of choosing how I want to play as opposed to following a pre-determined mission order or route. On the whole worth buying as it looks as though it has the possibility of using up a lot of my time!

5.0 out of 5 stars great game, 6 Jan 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
great game. the three different characters are amazing, giving you stealth, brute force and accuracy. the sniper character is great fun to play, with the scope shaking as the character breaths , giving good realism. the spy character is brilliant- you have the ability to kill enemies silently and take their uniforms, which allows you to walk openly in front of enemies of an inferior rank. the green beret is simply fast paced and excellent action. buy this game you will not be disappointed!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Three's a crowd, 26 May 2009

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
The first thing that becomes apparent with this game is that it has nothing to do with commandos, not in the traditional sense. It is not a bad game, just not very good.

You get to play a squad of three, a sniper, a spy and a green beret (muscle is the term they use in the game). You can toggle between all three at will. They have different skills so you have to use them wisely to complete the objectives.

The graphics are pretty good and the first few missions act as a tutorial. In fact, the missions are not that big or demanding. How you play the game is.

There are some similarities to this game and the likes of Battlefield and Conflict games. Switching characters seems like a good idea, but it how it is implimented that determines how good it works.

First problem is that each character has their own controls. So, switching about furiously obviously leads to a few wrong button presses. Then we have the bombardment of objectives. You haven't cleared the last one and now you have two or three more. Then you realise that the objectives are not that clear, and you are stuck in a fire fight with the enemy, and if one of your team dies its game over, and then you have to start at the beginning again because there is no save points and so on.

Whilst the game has promise, you end up having to replay missions over and over again. First to work out the objectives and then how to string them together to complete the mission. This becomes an irritation after a while. Some save points after each primary objective would have helped. As a result the game doesn't flow.

Commandos could have been much better with a bit more thought into the design. And how come only one of them actually wears a commando woolly hat?
