Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Set in the near future, speed heads will be able to take control of one of a selection of bizarre characters and pilot a 'blade', a jet-engined, anti-gravity bike, around tracks designed to rattle nerves and brain alike. The ultimate goal is to master both the blade and 24 different circuits at break-neck speed across exotic locations such as a partially terra-formed planet and a sub-tropical jungle in a distant part of the galaxy.

It's the sheer speed of the game that will take the player's breath away. Becoming adept at flying a blade will require more than just beginner's luck. A unique feature is the way the player character conveys the motion of the vehicle on screen to give even more feedback than previously achieved in any other game. Characters react to every scrape, crash and event on the track, heightening the experience and hooking the player into the action as if they were actually on the blade themselves.

Powerdrome is fully multiplayer compatible and makes the most of both Xbox Live! and PS2 online play. Up to eight speed junkies can create their own grueling races and tournaments. Powerdrome is a game that rewards those gamers with real skill but even the losers will be left gasping for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, Fun & Furious, 9 Jan 2005
By A Customer
It's a dim memory now, but I used to love Wipeout on the PS1. Quantum Redshift gave us a chance for a bit of high speed Xbox action and was agood game, but that was it. This game seems to have slipped in almost unnoticed, despite a reasonable 8/10 from OXM quite a while ago.

In the first half hour of play I was not impressed - but then persistance paid off. I've played it for about a week and I think it's great. There are no weapons or power-ups, which could be a downer for some, but the racing is better for this as it is a pure, very, very high speed racer. Add 4 player split screen and system link and this has got legs. Lots of tracks and craft to unlock and a good difficulty level.

I've not tried it on Xbox live yet, but hopefully a few people own it now. I think you can also have a guest, although the bigger the screen area you can get, the better. And the graphics are excellent. Insults get on your nerves within minutes but can be turned off in options. Track envoronments are in my opinion good and varied.

2.0 out of 5 stars Powerdrome review, 11 Nov 2004
Powerdrome, the game that inspired the wipeout series is back after 15+ years. Is it any good? Well that depends what you are after,if like me you are a live junkie then forget it after a week of owning the game I have not met a single person on live---- none !!!! That is amazing!! If you want a compitent single player game then this is for you.A decent challenge ,decent graphics and speed help this game to become a fun little title. If you are looking for originality then forget it,track design and setting are not anything you hav'nt seen before.Soundtrack is pretty good but the taunts of your player and others begin to grate rather quickly. All in all if you want a game to fill a gap until the next must have then give it a go (as long as you can do without the on-line play).
