You can fly on a dragon! No way!, 21 May 2004
In Drakengard, you play as a warrior named Caim with a lust for revenge. it's gameplay elements are similar to Koei's Dynasty Warriors series but It is just you against a whole army. There are 65 weapons to unlock in the game and they all work in different ways and fall into 6 different classes. They can all be leveled up 4 times giving them more devastating physical and magical attacks. The graphics are perfect, as you would expect from any Square Enix game. And, as i mentioned in my title, you can fly on a dragon. This is really awesome, as you swoopd own on unsespecting soldiers and fry them with your flame. Your dragon and you grow more powerful over time in an RPG kind of style and the lifespan is about 40 hours to beat the first ending, but i have been playing for 70 hour and a re still nowhere near the fifth ending. THis game does contain some gore, but it is possible to turn it off if you are aginst this sort of thing. Finally, they are a few other sort of playable characters known as allies. When you are losing a battle, a press of Circle will call whatever ally you have chosen and you will control them instead of Caim, the main character. They eventually dissappear from the battlefield though, leaving you to fight again. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves dragons or cool characters or just simply action, though it is not for young children to play. Amazing!

A game with potential..., 18 Jan 2006
By A Customer
I have recently gotten back into gaming and as my favorite genre is RPGs ive decided to buy a whole bunch of japanese RPGs to tide me over until the PS3 comes out, probably sometime this summer.I bought this game for £5 and judging from the reviews this game has received i wasnt expecting too much, but i was pleasantly surprised. This game was definitely value for money and it is not as bad as ppl say. I can understand some people being annoyed if they played full price for it as they thought Square-Enix game = masterpiece, unfortuantely Square-Enix only published this game, they did not develope it. This game is very interesting and entertaining, very dark with a gripping storyline. It has beautiful CG cut scenes which add to the overall atmosphere and experience. The only bad aspect of this game is the repetative game play. Jus hack n slash all the way through far too similar looking enemies... tho u can call ure dragon and take control of him to wreak havok on the swarms of enemy creatures. Drakengard is not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but it is enthralling and will keep u busy for around 40hours of game play, with levelling up, secrets and multiple endings to achieve. Its well worth the decreased asking price its currently being sold at... so if you're waiting patiently for the many games that will be out (mostly this spring) then i well advise u to pick up a copy of this underrated game to tide u over until then. And as i said, this game has potential so if ure interested Drakengard II will be released this march and it will be interesting to see what improvements they have made. Here is a list of the other PS2 RPG games that are currently available or are being released soon that i would recommend checking out: FFXII (August 2006) FFVII Dirge of Cerberus Shadow Hearts: Covenant Kigdom Hearts II (May 06) Grandia III (March 06) Xenosaga II Star Ocean: Til the End of Time Dragon Quest VIII (April 06) Phantasy Star Universe (June 06) Suikoden IV Suikoden V (March 06) Magna Carta: Tears of Blood Radiata Stories Tales of Legendia (Feb 06)

Deep-fried Hack-'n'-slash!, 2 Jun 2004
Just imagine standing on a high off hilltop, outside castle gates, you are the only one left to defend the castle. you look over the vast plains surrounding you as a huge army prepares to attack. you un-sheath your war sword. one person vs a thousand !? But dont worry, for then your mightly ally and friend Red Dragon swoops down from the heavans, circles the castle twice, cooking a few enemy soldiers as he goes and lands faithfully beside you. you get on..... .....and the fun begins! Sorry for the storytelling, but that is exactly what the game is like! Just imagine dynasty warrior hack 'n' slash goodness, a little bit of RPG character build up, and a whopping great 20 ton dragon. Nice .... The only reason i didn't give it 5/5 is because you only get to really play as one character (and a Dragon!), but thats okay because Caim and his monsterous steed can take out entire armies by themselves! the ground battles are a little lacking, but believe me, if you have the option of riding around a dragon, which would you choose!? walk or fly? this is where the game comes into its own, the flying levels are incredible, with the action of WW2 dogfights and the enjoyment of roasting blimp piolets as the crew try to shoot you down with cannons! a good game...
