4.0 out of 5 stars the sounds of the beautifully sinister, 12 Nov 2005
(i still get into arguements about the correct pronouciation)

with this album PECCATUM seem to have left behind their roots in the pompus avant-garde approach they took on amor fati and taken the path of subtlety. (less is more - i don't know?)the guitars are there but in only in sporadic moments. they have given way even moreso to ubiquitous keys, synths and electronics that carry the bulk of most tracks. except for a few snipets of pure promethian blast beats, the album mostly has a meditative quality akin to the type of music that you might listen to for a good nights sleep. it makes a change from constantly listening to heavier stuff assocaited with these musicians. nevertheless, they've not gone soft on us, the album i find to have a very sinister feeling to it.
there aren't really any stand out tracks but rather the album
works better as a whole from beginnig to end. if i had to choose a favourite i would say "the banks of this river" with the combination of ihriel's voice and piano.

the most notible features i find to be those snipets of EMPEROR in "Parasite my heart" and "Black star" which jump out at the listening like a clad mad man in a dark alley. if i ever find myself lost in reverie i hope i never experience a shock of such monstrous proportions.
what these heavier, demented guitar parts show (even though very brief) is that promethius was not a one off and allow us a glimpse into the next EMPEROR album (fingers crossed. theres still life life in the ol' boy!
