Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Twenty years and one Top Shop T-shirt fad on from their inception, Inferno renews Motorhead's vow to amphetamine-speed rock & roll in its most pure, distilled form. Age has not mellowed them: Inferno boasts a clutch of numbers explicitly dealing with death, murder and suicide, each one executed with the unforgiving confidence and well-honed chops of the master axeman. Weathered by decades of abuse, Lemmy's hoarse bark now sounds as sanded and moulded as a glowering gargoyle, but it suits everything from the murderous, white-hot bass chug of "Killers" to the good-time rock & roll of "Life's A Bitch"--admittedly, not a million miles apart, but that's par for the course here--with ease. Meanwhile, guitar-for-hire Steve Vai guests on two numbers, "Terminal Show" and "Down On Me", but while Vai's name is commonly a byword for guitar-shredding pomposity of the first order, here his ostentatious excesses are neatly compressed into two guitar solos of bracing speed and dexterity. In fact, it's kind of fitting that the only sign of late years comes on "Whorehouse Blues"--an acoustic closer that sees Lemmy wheezing into a harmonica, reviving the old Delta blues in all its sordid, licentious glory. --Louis Pattison

4.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up, 13 Jul 2004
By Ian Holt (Radcliffe, Manchester United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Lets get this out of the way first - I am a huge fan, always have been, always will be. However, I would hope that this fact wouldn't stop me from giving an honest and critical opinion where necessary. For instance, Iron Fist had internal turmoil written all over it coz it was crap. More up to date and their last release, Hammered, was formulaic and uninspiring. Although Lemmy is quite rightly regarded as one of the last true rock legends who hasn't sold his soul to the record company accountants, that doesn't mean he's incapable of writing a few turkeys on the way.

However with Inferno I'm pleased to report that we're back on track. The saying 'familiarity breeds contempt' is dispelled here - it should read 'familiarity inspires tight musicianship and ear-bashing rock and roll unequalled by any other band.' Inferno is a winner, no two ways about it. I've left this review a good few weeks so as not to give any knee jerk reaction. The proof of the pudding was when I was on the way home from my dull job today and was grinning from ear to ear in the car whilst nodding my head to the opening track. Surely the measure of a good album is that you don't get tired of hearing it. I put Iron Fist on every now and again for novelty value and I haven't heard Hammered for over a year - Inferno won't go that way.

If a band wants to carry on evolving and writing new music rather than trot out the old hits on tour every couple of years then they have to make sure that anything new moves them along to a different place. Otherwise they go stale and end up playing with Bananarama on the Here and Now tour at Christmas. I defy anybody who has a passion for good, old-fashioned , loud, hard rock and roll to be anything other than impressed by Inferno. The production is fantastic, the musical ability of all 3 of them (plus Steve Vai) is as good as anybody and the end result is honest and totally satisfying.

Any upcoming rock bands reading this, just have a listen to Uncle Lemmy and learn. As Dave grohl of the Foo Fighters recently said, 'Lemmy is amazing, he just comes in, kicks shit out of a song and then leaves!' Hallelujah. And lastly boys and girls, lets enjoy them while they're still going - the World will be a poorer place without Motorhead.

9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Bastards ! (But their best album since then.), 4 Jul 2004
Awesome album, they just keep gettin' better and better ! Why the title of this review in homage to a previous album ? Because I bought the CD the first day it came out, when the DVD package wasn't advertised or available. Thought it was strange that this seemed then to be a CD only release as Motorhead always give superb value to their fanbase, as recent albums have always had a little something extra. (Even their website seemed to be unaware of the diuble disc release, unless I'm mistaken) So I think I'll be clicking again to buy the CD/DVD package - but it's still worth buying it twice - now I've got a legit excuse to give one away to one of the uninitiated ! Can't wait to see them in the UK in the fall, hope they give this album the hearing it thoroughly deserves. Would love to see a live rendition of 'Whorehouse Blues". Surely the greatest rock'n'roll band ever. A must have no matter how many copies you buy !

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the last Album, 1 Aug 2004
Although I liked Motorhead's previous album "Hammered" I think this one is better. Probably on a par with my favourite of this current lineup (incidentally the longest running version of Motorhead by quite some way) "We are Motorhead". In my opinion better than most of the releases from the 1990s, so well worth a listen if you like Motorhead. I would like to echo a previous reviewer in saying that I hope they play "Whorehouse Blues" on their UK tour this Autumn, as it's a bit different from the rest of the album.
