4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing rommantic commedy, 1 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Not always a cowboy, John Wayne is Rusty a post WWII Marine pilot traveling across country by train who meets up with Claudette Colbert as a writer on her way to Hollywood to oversee the sceen version of her hit novel "From here to Eternaty". One look at the Duke and she see him as Mark Winston the role leading man in her new movie. They make their way by train, car and almost plane. Each chaaotic turn in the road offers amusement and banter with a pleasent rommantic under current.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lost in transit, 6 Feb 2007
By Trevor Willsmer (London, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Without Reservations is an overlong road trip comedy that is mainly of interest today as one of the reasons screenwriter Andrew Solt found himself in deep water in the blacklist years. You do hope there were better ones, because the script is pretty trite and rarely convincing, with author Claudette Colbert tagging along with Marine flyer John Wayne because she thinks he'll be the ideal casting for her soon to be filmed novel that many have hailed as a blueprint for the future but he thinks is ridiculous. You can fill in the gaps from there, although one supporting character's bizarre application of socialist principles to hook men and the odd barb about social engineering add unexpected quirks to a tediously conventional movie.

DD's DVD boasts a good transfer, unlike the many Public Domain releases of the film.
