Definition of Style, 26 Aug 2004

The game succeeds for two reasons; a stylistic departure in the right direction and the music. So often it's the music that compels you and gives you a lot more characterisation than the game alone would.More than that, this album stands up on it's own as a good album. I could, without qualms, recommend this to fans of the series and non-gamers alike.

Jesper Kyd have done it again!, 12 Sep 2004
After Kyd's "Hitman" and "Hitman 2" soundtracks, I wondered if the brilliant composer could capture the mood and the "essence" that is the life of Nr 47, in the third outing of the Hitman series. He did it the way I hoped! As soon as I had installed the game, and the main title screen appeared I thought: "He have done it again!"
The soundtrack is as far as I'm concerned, flawless! But this time he's gone for a darker mood, with more electronic sounds than the orchestra filled "Hitman 2" soundtrack and with a more creepy theme than the previous scores.
But that seems to be the right choice as many missions - and the whole game is very dark and "mysterious".
Jesper Kyd is a great composer, and the scores he made for the Hitman series is as good as any movie soundtrack. And in many cases - much better! I would maybe go as far as comparing him with such great movie composers as Ennio Morricone and Eric Serra. That's beacuse the images and the style works so great with the music, and he fullfilles the feel of the game, just as great movie soundtracks do.
And as a CD, this soundtrack stand alone just great, and is a pleasure to have in the CD-player. Turn off most of the lights, turn up the volume and just let yourself be dragged into the dark and moody world of Nr 47.

Evolution of Musical Brilliance, 20 Mar 2006
There is something about the Hitman games that speaks of sophistication, calculation and collectiveness. All of this escalates into a controlled frenzy, carrying out assassinations without mercy and with extreme brutality. Yet 47 remains cool and calm, straightening his tie as he walks briskly away, leaving a body or two in his wake.This special and unique of gameplay has reflected near-perfectly in the music, composed by legendary Danish composer Jesper Kyd. In the original game, the music was made up of electrical sounds and rhythms. This expanded into rolling orchestral pieces for the games second outing; matching the increased grandeur and spectacle. For Hitman Contracts, the third instalment, the game adopted a darker and more sombre theme. This is matched effortlessly in the music. As with most game soundtracks, the music from Contracts is made up of action and exploration pieces. The exploration pieces are moody and brooding, compiled of rumbling orchestral pieces and electronic sounds. For me, by far the best aspect of the soundtrack is the explosive and exhilarating action sequences: full of intense and dramatic scores. I believe that Hitman Contracts is musical evolution at its finest. It reflects the game’s mood very well and is a fantastic album to listen to, no matter if you’ve played the game or not. I would recommend this to anyone, gamers or non-gamers.
