Product Description

Album Description

In 2002 Philip Glass composed the soundtrack score to the Stephen Daldry film 'The Hours'. Starring Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep, the film went on to receive 9 Academy awards nominations, including one for "best score".

Michael Riesman, long time collaborator with Philip Glass and Musical Director/Producer for the soundtrack, created solo piano adaptations of the original score. Following a number of successful concert performances, Orange Mountain Music enticed him into the studio to record these works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music from [The] Hours reborn already, 6 Nov 2004
By A Customer
Glass' music for [The] Hours film has to be one of the most hauntingly memorable in his repertoire. While his remarkable composition cannot be improved upon, this transcription for solo piano presents the listener with a beautifully played form of alternative listening. This piano version recreates the powerful melancholy of the original version yet at the same time generates a different and equally enjoyable musical experience. Glass is known for re-using themes and musical treatments in many of his works and it makes a refreshing change for someone else (in this case Reisman, with his close association with Glass himself) to capture the essence of the original score on a solo instrument. The recording has to be an essential addition to the collection of every Glass officianado.
