5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection, 10 Dec 2004
I have been a Shadow fan since my life changed due to Entroducing. My whole perspective on music changed and the album seemed like it was made only for my ears. Genius. I have loved everything Josh has done since.
When I heard about the IT&OT dvd, I jumped at the chance of purchasing it and as soon as it turned up on my doorstep, it was wacked straight into my DVD player. The first thing that grabbed me was the backdrop visuals. The camera looking down from space, zooming in on a needle on a record. I am hooked and I can feel the atmosphere in my bedroom!!! The great thing about this DVD is not really the music as I have all of it anyway (and it is absolutely brilliant). It is the fact that you get to see people appreciating it and the fact that Shadow can work a crowd better than anyone makes it sweeter. He builds tension by delaying hooks on his MPC (Organ Doner) and his scratching is so tight that I sometimes feel like I should give up DJ'ing and making beats. But the highlight is when he drops the Guitar riff of High Noon and the crowd go absolutely bananas. I had a shiver go down my spine and a shot of inspiration into my veins and the way that he keeps bringing the track back down to a minimal beat and then firing it back at em' with more energy than a 5 year old on prozak is simple but so effective. This is a DVD that shows a true master at work. Buy it and learn a thing or two about how to make 100's of people jump around like crazed monkeys!!!!

Perfection is obtainable and here lies the proof.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Live DJ album that works. Someone pinch me., 13 Aug 2004
I have to say I was a little apprehensive about buying a live album from a DJ (playing records on a record? Ziperdeedoodaaah!), but i was wrong. The man displays utter genius by mashing up his own tracks from across his work on Endtroducing, Pre-Emptive Strike, The Private Press, and the UNKLE project with classics from Blackalicious, Handsome Boy Modelling School, Jurassic 5 and Muro. And it's awesome!

Songs mutate in and out of each other in unique new combinations in a way that a normal band could never manage on a live LP, without hyperactive scratching detracting from the music. And the crowd reaction makes you envy those who got to experience it live, which is surely what it's all about.

The tracklisting is more of a treat to fans than a greatest hits, but it works so perfectly in places it hardly matters. If you're new to DJ Shadow, pick up the original albums first, but i certainly recommend you come back to this.
