Another hidden treasure, 18 Aug 2005
The first thing that attracted me to this game was the price, i thought it was worth a shot, and for £10 i certainly did not regret it.Crimson tears follows a group of three humanoids investigating the disappearance of a friend in Tokyo in 2040, and opens with a stunning cutscene which appears to be a mixture of manga, western cartoon, and some other impressive visuals. A very action packed intro to be honest, and one which kept me going. The game seems to contain some action elements and some RPG elements, although all combat is real time (i.e. attack responding to button rather than command.) There are major hits, and minor hits, plus blocking, and the ability to create combinations. Now the RPG element gives you the ability to level up your character, to obtain greater, more powerful weapons, and takes into account status effects. There are three characters to choose from so you wont be dissappointed. The gameplay sees you going between the Tokyo town to the dungeons where combat takes place. These range from abandoned Subways to Sewers, and include a variety of enemies to keep you interested. The graphics are pretty good, but difficult to explain, a bit of a 3D manga mix really, however, there is little attention to detail, especially the shops in Tokyo which appear to be nothing more than a brick wall with a shutter, and there doesn't seem to be many places to go other than the dungeon or the town, and this makes the game feel restrictive. The enemies are well drawn and varied, and the area's are too, but there is a lack of detail. Other features include being able to unlock a monster book and a video viewer, however, i'm yet to work out how to use the monster book properly. The game feels good and for it's price i would recommend this to anyone who has got time to spare. This is yet another hidden treasure which will please anyone who finds it.

The Constant Battle, 3 Mar 2005
I bought this gane on a whim and as it turned out, for the price it has a lot to offer. You can play the game as one of three characters but along the same story, so if half way through you get board you can continue as someone else. All the weapons can be passed to each character and can also be upgraded and combined with items you find. Moves can be added to your list and combos can be extended. This is a game that is a lot deeper than it appears, with smooth animation and some stunning cut scenes right out of a Anime cartoon. One grip I have is that it might get a bit repetative after a while, it will be the new weapons and character building that keeps you interested not the gameplay (unless you love mindless violence).

Better than expected., 26 Jan 2009

After seeing the videos of this on sites like Gamespot etc,I thought I'd give it a go,I like 3rd person action games anyway and thought this was in the same vein, similar to Cy Girls,Hard Edge that sort of thing, boy was I pleasantly surprised to find it had more in common with Phantasy Star, which I love.
After thinking about it for a while, this has more in common with Metal Dungeon, except the fighting is realtime but other things are familiar,The map changes each time, there are usually some environmental hazards and best of all,you can exit a 'dimension maze'as long as you have a returner and return later with new supplies, weapons etc,you can even upgrade your character (one of three) just like Metal Dungeon.
The graphics are excellent, vey anime inspired and solid looking cel shaded characters and enemies, the three characters are subtley different,Amber uses swords,Tokio guns and Kadie her fists.
All in all an excellent game.
