Amazon.co.uk Review

Tune in for the latest instalment in the ongoing "Son of the Wu" saga, Tical 0: The Prequel, in which Method Man finds himself in a particularly awkward position. One gets the sense that it was a battle between Mista Mef and Def Jam for the soul of this album and that the label won. Meth's third solo outing radiates a blatantly commercial vibe that risks alienating die-hard Wu-Tang Clan fans, yet it contains just enough hot selections to grab the less judgmental listener's interest. And the hot selections are really what we're here for, right? Surprisingly, the album's many guest appearances provide the most excitement. A newly Def Jam-affiliated Puff Daddy produces and comperes the Missy-accented "Say What", Raekwon injects some old-school Wu flavour into "The Turn", and Busta Rhymes straight kills it with a full-throttle assault on "What's Happenin'". Even longtime Wu-Tang sidekick Streetlife adds some nice touches to tracks such as "The Prequel". At least Meth's kept his friends close during this transitional period. --Rebecca Levine, Amazon.com

Album Description

Featuring production from NO ID, Just Blaze, Megahertz, P Diddy, Missy (the two teamed up for "Mini-Van", Jelly Roll (the electro-fied funk "Fire") and RZA, along with guest appearances from Ghostface (the string-heavy "The Afterparty") Ludacris ("Rodeo"), and Raekwon, Tical 0: The Prequel is Method Man at his most fierce, fun and focused.

1.0 out of 5 stars featuring method man..., 28 Feb 2005
By Graham Simons "grahams246" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Come in Meth youre time is up. This is weak, there's no other way to put it. This album is so hip-pop it's actually a disgrace that any member of the Wu would even want to put their name to it. It's reminiscent of LL Cool J's Phenomenon. Remember that? No? And why should you? That was also an album that enlisted a whole bunch of other rappers including one Busta Rhymes who merely shouted 'flip-mode' a lot. The Busta track is weak and it really is a Busta track and not a Meth track. None of the tracks give Meth a platform. The Missy, Ludacris and Snoop tracks are just cheap throwaway 3 minutes singles. Quite frankly Meth spoils an otherwise flawless rap from Raekwon and the only great track is afterparty because Ghostface is quite simply untouchable. If you love Eminem and tripe like that then you'll love this. If however, you've ever loved the Wu avoid this like the proverbial plague.

2.0 out of 5 stars So disappointing, 16 Jan 2005
Method Man is possibly my favourite rapper of all time, the way he flows is so unique that listening to him is fun and inspiring. Or at least the way he used to flow. Compare this awful, commercial album to his performances on Enter the Wu-Tang, the original Tical, even on the more recent Blackout! with Redman. He sounds lazy and uninspiring over mostly terrible beats.

The only highlights are The Turn, which sounds like an old Wu-Tang record, Afterparty, and What's Happenin. Maybe The Show and Never Hold Back are listenable as well but besides that this sucks.
Thank God that he's getting RZA to produce his next album, don't bother with this.

3.0 out of 5 stars METHOD MAN, 21 Jun 2004
By big beans (Glasgow,Scotland) - See all my reviews
Right heres the bottom line, this is a great mef album the only problem is that theres so many producers on it that it never gets time to settle into its own and thats when you tend to flick between the tracks, thats why mefs previous cd's ARE more enjoyable to listin to (the main reason being that the rza produced them),another problem is that theres way too many collaborations and not enough of method man on his own.The things that i like about Tical 0 is the fact its not too comercial which is nice,he tried his best to keep it as raw as possible while also pleasing a newer audiance. To sum this up its a great album but if uv not yet got your hands on his previous cd's then i'd advise you to pick them up first.
WU-TANG FOREVER!!
