This is in many ways an excellent selection of music from the wonderful Peter Jackson LOTR movie trilogy. Howard Shore has composed some memorable, even haunting themes to represent the different inhabitants of middle earth, and all the main ones are represented here.

However a major shortcoming in my view is that the songs 'May it be' and 'Into the West' are not sung by Enya and Annie Lennox - I have deducted one star for each song. It's not clear when you buy this CD that it's not from the original soundtrack. I ended up buying the complete trilogy boxed set instead (3 CD's) and it's excellent.

One of the most memorable components of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy was the breathtaking Oscar winning score by Howard Shore.

So be aware before purchasing this CD that it is not the original soundtrack. Enya, Annie Lennox & Emiliana Torrini, who each sang the closing credits for one of the films, are also missing from this set.

I find it annoying that some record labels will release this kind of CD. It's nothing more than cynical ploy to cash in on something successful. The music here is fine if you're not bothered about it being the original, but if you're unsure I would advise you to give this CD a miss & seek out Howard Shore's recordings instead.

I recommend purchasing the soundtrack trilogy box set, but there are also a set of extended 'complete recordings' box sets available that are stunning.
