4.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the tin!, 16 Jan 2009
As this value for money 3CD set ably demonstrates, Buzzcocks were a fine singles band and many of their best tracks were tucked away on B-sides.

CD1 begins with the four tracks from the `Spiral Scratch EP' that were recorded before Howard Devoto (later to form Magazine) left the band. The remainder of the disc chronologically spans the band's singles for EMI from 1977 to 1979. The list of killer cuts is endless - `Orgasm Addict', `What Do I Get', `I Don't Mind', `Love You More', `Ever Fallen In Love...', `Promises', `Everybody's Happy Nowadays', `Harmony In My Head' - what a run of A-sides! The pick of the B-sides on here are `Whatever Happened To?', `Autonomy', `Noise Annoys', `Why Can't I Touch It?' and `Something's Gone Wrong Again'.

CD2 opens with the tracks that made up "Parts 1-3", the pick of these being `Are Everything', `Why She's A Girl From The Chainstore', `Airwaves Dream' and `Running Free'. After that, there's a gap of a few years before the band reformed and released `Alive Tonight'. There are some gems here too, notably the tracks from 1993's superb "Trade Test Transmissions" album - `Last To Know', `Isolation' (here in live form), `Innocent' and `Do It' + 1994's non-album track `Libertine Angel'.

CD3 features a further 9 songs, the standouts being 1999's `Soul On A Rock' (from the "Modern" album) and 2004's `Sick City Sometimes'. The set concludes with a specially recorded interview with band members Steve Diggle and Tony Barber. There's an accompanying 16 page booklet which contains numerous photographs and sleeve notes.
If you're looking for a more extensive collection than the classic "Singles Going Steady" then this is a must-buy.
