Started Optimistically But Became Increasingly Dismayed, 23 Jul 2004
Not just the Blues' season but the content of this DVD. Having purchased end-of-season videos and DVDs for the last 5/6 seasons I knew more or less what to expect. No booklet with chapter info, player stats etc. Fair enough. They have never been included before. So so presentation: Granada TV's and City fan Alastair Mann does an excellent job summarising but the rest of the presentation is a bit shoddy. That's ok. Had that for the last few years and to be fair it's getting better. Quality of football: patchy. But that's MCFC for you and other than the Div 1 promotion season it's been hit-and-miss. But I at least expected coverage of most if not all the games and at the very least all the goals win, lose or draw. Hang on a minute! Where were the FA and League Cup goals? Where was Anelka's excellent strike away against Leeds? It turned up in the Anelka goals montage but I wanted more than a split second of that to some trendy music hidden away in the extras. Ok, so we got extended highlights of the Derby at COMS (but where were the goals from the other 2 away games against the rags?). City fans are big boys and girls and have had to live with the club conceding hatfuls of goals over the years-we can cope with them on a DVD! Tyler and Gray's commentary was dropped from the epic Spurs FA cup win and replaced by a guy who sounded like he was commentating by listening to a radio broadcast of the game. I sat in front of my telly with my draw dropping as Alistair Mann skipped over large chunks of our season. Ok, so most of it was rubbish but I didn't expect to start getting angry with City again this time from the comfort of my armchair instead of my seat in the East stand. The bottom line though like many things with the club is that they have you by the short and curlies and charge top dollar for an average item. The answer is I suppose: don't buy it but where else can you have a record of most games of the season? They know that the fans will go out and buy expensive club products with dubious content (new away kit anyone?). Maybe there were issues of copyright I don't know but surely the club has some say in this and Sky are a shareholder after all. But again a great opportunity was missed by the club and fans have been short changed a little especially when you can get DVD box sets on Amazon with heaps of extras for maybe a tenner more.

Average - - No more than that !!, 20 Aug 2004
I heartily agree with Steve Moses in most departments about this production. Good, bad or indifferent, fans are capable of choosing what to watch, so although it was a very disappointing season, I wanted to see all the goals, home and away, for and against, despite some very dodgy performances. Even some draws 2-2 Liverpool at home and Leeds 1-1 weren't shown, well not all four goals against Liverpool, anyway ! Alistair Mann, as professional as ever does a good job, but come on City, we didn't have much to cheer about last season, the least you could have done was thrown some 'extra's' in for example..extended highlights of Bolton 6-2, Everton 5-1, Villa 4-1, Spurs 4-3..Shaun Wright Phillips compilation... OK we got extended highlights of hammering Man Utd again (getting predictable innit ?!) and an Anelka montage set to some very iffy music (allegedly). Next end-of-season review, back to all the goals from all the games please and some 'extra's' for our hard-earned loyal support!! With Sky's extra premiership coverage, there's no excuse next time around !!
