I haven't played the previous game in this series so i can't comment on the improvements or lack thereof. If you're a ROCKY fan then you'll be drawn in straight away with the classic opening and stirring music from the films (notably 1, 2 and 4)There isnt much of a story interjected into the career mode where you take on about 24 fighters on your way to the top. What i did like was the boxing physics engine. You can see how hard and what kind of damage your opponent takes from your punches. Its fairly easy to learn a few combos and the atmosphere generated is quite good. Whenever you or your opponent get down to about 15% health the old Rocky II WAR music starts up...which can inspire you to make a comeback or finish off the opponent! A very nice touch i thought (brings back the memories) Another thing which happens when your health is low is that you can go into fury mode where your punches are harder hitting but you cant block. Ok, so the graphics are well realised, the music and sound effects are excellent and the fight engine does the job so whats the bad points? On career mode you cant draw or lose more than twice before its game over. This highly detracts from the realism of the game and i felt some other penalty like str, stamina, speed and movement penalties would be a better option than just simply having a GAME OVER message after you lose or draw just 2 fights(out of a possible 25 fighters) After each fight its true you sometimes do lose a couple of points to varying attributes, however you should lose an amount appropriate to the level of toughness of the fight (e.g. a 15 round gruelling punchfest should hit your stamina hard!) On a positive note at least the attributes of the boxer you can improve (strength, speed, stamina, determination and movement) are not just for show and seem to make a noticeable difference in the game. Lots of extras to open up in this game as well inc trailers for all the rocky films, character bios, stadiums, training modes etc. I highly recommend this for title for renting. I don't feel it has the true longevity for a purchase. You can take each of the four boxers to the top true but once you have taken Rocky to the top it feels a bit repetitive doing the same with the others.
