Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

NETGEAR's WG311T PCI adapter delivers up to 108 Mbps wireless Internet and network access to your desktop PC or using 802.11g Super G technology. The WG311T operates at up to 10x the speed of 802.11b products; easily capable of quickly distributing digital music, streaming video, emailing photos or downloading files.

The WG311T wireless PCI adapter gives you fixed (installed) continuous access to your home network or office network (via a wireless router), saving you the time and expense of installing Ethernet cabling to your desktop PC. This is good news for network administrators: it is easy to add new users to a business network using the WG311T wireless adapter, just install into a free PCI slot and configure to your company's wireless network. It is also really easy to relocate any desktop PC, as no re-wiring is required, simply move it to its new location.

NETGEAR's WG311T provides both WEP and WPA (WPA is available via firmware upgrade) wireless encryption standards to protect your network from eavesdroppers and bandwidth stealers. To be ultimately secure you can limit access from your wireless network by assigning designated PCs using their unique ID, called a MAC address. The WG311T (and all NETGEAR wireless adapters) support VPN-pass through for secure access to corporate network resources from home, via your Broadband Internet connection.

Once installed into an available PCI slot on your desktop PC, setting up the WG311T is made simple with NETGEAR's Smart Wizard Install assistant: The WG311T selects the best available connection and adapts its settings to match. NETGEAR's Smart Wizard user interface makes it easy to adjust and view the settings of your adapter: e.g. adding wireless security settings or checking wireless signal strength.

1.0 out of 5 stars Freezes on Windows XP SP2, 10 July 2005
I'm having terrible trouble with this card on my Dell 4300 1.7GHz. It continually freezes the machine. The machine is only a couple of years old, so you wouldn't expect serious compatability issues. However after much effort, the end result has had to be to take it out
Belatedly I've realised, through a trawl of web news groups, that a lot of other people are experiencing similar problems. Equally bad is the fact that there is little acknowledgement of this on the Netgear support site and the response when I contacted Netgear support was poor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best WLAN card ever?, 22 Mar 2007
By Mr. Alan Uisce "Alan" (SE United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

Fully supported in Linux with the madwifi driver which is usually installed by default.
I installed it in my PC and it just worked "out of the box" with absolutely zero configuration (which makes a nice change).
It has an Atheros chipset and is recognised as ath0.
As far as I can tell, this is one of the best (if not THE best) wireless cards on the market for Linux, which is why I bought it, and I'm very happy with its performance

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, and easy Linux support through madwifi, 30 Dec 2006

Works flawlessly. Much much better than the cheaper card I had before.

Linux users: Linux support for the WG311T is full using madwifi. Just install the package and go. No command line stuff required. I recommended the WG311T over the WG311 which has different revisions with different chipsets and varying support levels.
