Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Specnaz: Project Wolf is a tactical first-person shooter built on the Amoeba 3-D outdoor engine. The game's main feature is the tactic-action model, which lets the player complete missions without any limitations. Another important factor of the game is the military trained wolf, whose skills and services the player will be able to use within much of the game.

In case the previous review was not enough to put you off.

So you know where I am coming from. I have been playing games for more than 20 years, FPS are my favourite type and have just completed Timeshift (running at 1920 * 1200 no problems).

When you first run you are asked to create an account. This gets me my 1st problem as no matter what it will not save the account when I come out of the game. This means I cannot save game progression if I was to get that far. I'm assuming it's because I did not install on the C drive. If so, then a BIG RED FLAG.

When I get a game up and running I, like most people, tweak the settings. I always try to play at 1920*1200 if supported otherwise the highest res available. This game only has three res choices available, the highest being 1280 * 1024. MAJOR RED FLAG. A game released in 2006 and the highest res it supports is 1280*1024. Like Doom 3 you have to restart the game to use the new res but as it does not save the login I cannot get to the highest res.

OK so I try the training mission. The worst training mission ever and if it is a representation of game play then go no further. Problems are as follows:

1. You can get killed in the training mission and unless you have performed a save (more on that later) you will have to start from the beginning.
2. It doesn't monitor your progression like other games do. One part involves blowing up barrels with a grenade. It only knows you have done this when you reach the next waypoint.
3. It appears you always start off with the maximum ammunition for a weapon (which only shows number of mags not rounds available) and you do not appear to be able to restock when you find a weapon of the same type.
4. Depending where you drop a weapon to swop for another it may disappear.
5. When triggering a det pack you are informed to get a safe distance beforehand. There is no indication of when you are safe. This was my first death - not good.

There are other game play/mechanics aspects that are bad but I think I have covered enough.

Finally saves. You can only save three times whilst playing a mission. Once you have saved to a slot it remains occupied until you complete or restart the mission. So once you have used it you are stuck with it whilst in mission.

If I could give no stars I would do so.

Only get this if you are desperate for a new FPS experience, charitable or masochistic.
