It probably says something about a game in which you try and get through the combat as quickly as you can to get to the dialogue. The good thing it says is the dialogue and voice acting is well done and funny. And it really is. Cary Elwes always does well and the banter between the main character and the narrator is most amusing. It's just a shame he didn't choose a more over the top Princess Bride accent for the job. The bad thing it says is the combat is dire. It's mindless hack and slash and the lack of tactical choices combined with an awkward 'spell' system do tend to make it something to endure rather than enjoy. Graphically I think it's a treat. This is the first time a PC has been graced with the engine that powered Dark Alliance on the console, and it looks the part, especially the water. The system requirements are resultingly steep though, as it forces your system to recreate routines obviously optimised for a console platform. That said, I find it perfectly playable on a 1ghz pentium III with an FX5700. But I wouldn't advice anything less than that on the graphics front. A major tip would be to get a hardware sound card, and make sure you have the latest drivers - I had the slow-mo effect until I updated my sound drivers at which point it flew. This game could be better - if combat was done better, or if you actually had an inventory (the game just equips the 'best' pieces and automatically converts the rest into gold). Some of the convertion to PC has left rough edges - the cut scenes being especially poor, with other low resolution effects popping up from time to time. Control-wise I actually found the mouse and keyboard set up worked well though. It'll keep you chuckling with it's constant pokes at other games in the genre (yes - you can do a quest where it actually helps someone to go around smashing barrels for no reason). It's a budget priced game, and worth picking up for the odd session of play.
