Product Description

Album Description

Take cover--Eminem and his Detroit crew are back with their second album, D12 World. Production credits and guests include Eminem (executive producer), Dr Dre, Kon Artis and Obie Trice. D12 World follows the platinum selling Devils Night and boasts the single "My Band" as well as "Six In The Morning" (which has been an underground club favourite for months) and "40 Ounce".

CD Description

'D-12 World' is the second album from Eminem's Detroit based hip hop crew D-12. The album, very much in the vein of Eminem's solo work, features all six members and their alter-egos mixing shocking subject matter with straight up Dr. Dre inspired hip hop beats. The single 'My Band' is also included.

4.0 out of 5 stars A step up from Devils Night, 9 May 2004
By Greg (London, England) - See all my reviews
Compared to D12's first album Devils Night, D12 World is pretty much more of the same. However Eminem appears on only 11 tracks even though he produced almost all of them. The lyrics are a step up from Devils Night and the whole group seem to be rapping faster than before. (Apart from Bizzare who still just speaks and I think is only included to add some variety to a track). Below I have rated each track and written a brief comment on each of them.

1. Git Up - A great start from Eminem on here, the flow is tight and rapping quick. An above average track -3.5 STARS-

2. Loyalty - Nearly 6 minutes long this track and features Obie Trice with a cutting verse. Again above average but not great and it reminded me of a typical song on Obie's album Cheers.
-3 STARS-

3. Just Like U - A solo track for Bizzare and probably the worst song on the album. Every D12 fan knows Bizzares lyrical skill is awful and he raps (talks) just to shock. The song is about the usual sex and violence but is slow and has a really annoying chorus. -1 STAR-

4. I'll be Dammed - I liked this track, stands out quite a lot from many of the others. Kon Artis is good on this one. Probably the 6th best track on the album. -4 STARS -

5. Skit

6. My Band - The single that you either love or hate. Personally I think it makes a refreshing change to most rap tracks and is the only song to make me laugh (funny video too). My Band is the most unique song on the album and in my opinion is one of the best -5 STARS-

7. U R the One - Poor song. Lyrics are boring and beats repetitive. I skip this all the time. -1 STAR -

8. 6 in the Morning - Great tune! I heard this a while ago and instantly liked it. Great beats and flow make it a rap song you could dance to in a club. Eminem is good on this too. 4rd best track on the album. -4 STARS-

9. How Come - A good song about Eminems relationship with Royce Da 5'9', the rapper he fell out with after EM hit the big time. Meaningful lyrics from EM but goes downhill from second verse.
-3 STARS -

10. Leave Dat Boy ALone - Em sounds different on this one, especially on the chorus and the beats are quirky too. Proof lays down a great verse. A good track but not one of the best.
-3 STARS-

11. Get my Gun - Brilliant! I really like this track, its fast paced and all members really go for it making the flow tight. Eminems stands out as usual and there is an amusing middle section where his gun gets stuck... Reminds me of Criminal on the Marshall Mathers LP, 2nd best track. -5 STARS-

12. Skit

13. B**** - A really sexist tune so if your female you will probably hate it. But I still think thats it makes for an enjoyable listen and is quite amusing. Has good beats and entertaining lyrics, it grew on me after the 4th or 5th listen.
- 4 STARS-

14. Skit

15. D-12 World - The title track, produced by Kanye West. A no show by Eminem on this track lets it down as does the boring chorus. Average. -2 STARS-

16. 40 OZ - A great tune, really violent with a cool shouty chorus that will make u tap your feet and nod your head. Another tune that could be played in a club. All the group shine here with great rhymes and flow. Really enjoyable. Produced by the Trackboyz. 4th best tune. -4.5 STARS-

17. Skit

18. American Psycho 2 - Well, I love Dre's production and I love Cypress Hill and this track has both so for me its the best on the album. As usual its typically violent with Dre's dark menacing beat. B-Real from Cypress Hill makes an interesting catchy chorus and Eminem really delivers on his verse. I wish Dre produced a few more songs on the album. Best tune. -5 STARS-

19. Skit

20. Good Die Young - D-12's subject matter changes here, making for a heartfelt serious track for once. This song is about their friend, rapper Bugz and how important life is. Even Bizzare is serios here. Kuniva's verse is really emotional, though Eminem should have been included. Great addition to the album. 3rd best tune. -4 STARS-

21. Keep Talkin - Again good, but not great. Everything about this track is pretty average, Eminem is on the chorus and th other members all deliver good verses but the beats are boring and the lyrics typical gangster rap.
-3 STARS -

So a great album, better than Devils Night with some really good tracks (My Band, 6 in the Morning, Get My Gun, 40 OZ, American Psycho 2) but a few of the other songs let it down. More varied production and guest rappers would have made it better. Sure to be another hit for Shady records. For all Eminem and D-12 fans this is a must-buy

4.0 out of 5 stars Vast improvement on Devils' Night, nearing perfection., 9 May 2004
Let's face it, D12's debut offering 'Devil's Night' is never going to be mentioned in a 'Classic Hiphop Album' debate, which is why D12 needed a strong second album. Thankfully, they have delivered. The first two tracks give the album such an explosive start that you can hardly wait to hear the rest of the album, but it tails off for a while with the awful Bizzarre solo 'Just Like Me', the rather weak 'I'll Be Damned' and the lame single 'My Band'. At this stage you are confused at the rapid change in quality, but your faith is quickly restored when you hear the songs following 'My Band'. 'U R The One' shows that D12 are perfectly capable of making a quality song without Eminem, but it's Slim Shady that blows us away in the next two songs, '6 in the morning' and 'how come', the strongest songs on the album. From then on the songs range from quite good to superb, the best ones being the hyper 'Get My Gun' in which Eminem and Proof's verses are the highlights, the misogynistically hilarious 'B*tch', the Dre-produced 'American Psycho 2' and the incredibly downbeat 'Good Die Young'. It would be hard to say that Eminem isn't the star of the show again, but there is a lot more creative input from the rest of the members, particularly the ever-imprvong Proof and Kon Artis. Although i still feel the best is yet to come from D12, this album is still far better than their comically lurid debut 'Devil's Night', and is definately worth buying on Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars A missed opportunity, 13 Aug 2005
D12's first joint , Devils Night , was possibly the best Eminem album ever released ( and possibly the eminem show) . The 5 other Detriot crew members really hold their own and make the cd a very enjoyable experiance . With their dark lyrics and catchy beats , Devils Night is a stroke of genius . Unfortuneately D12 world just does not compare .As soon as i heard the first single 'my band' i decided to buy the cd .This was much like purple pills from devils night and so i had high expectations , unfortuneately they fell short . D12 have TOTALLY altered their style and songs like B**** , leave dat boy alone , u r the one and i'll be damned ruin the album totally , i couldn't believe what i was listening to ! Also , why the hell would Eminem EVER allow Bizzare to have the only solo song on the album , it is appauling and the skits inbetween are aggravating and totally unnecassary .The Kanye West produced title song is also catchy , but rather pointless . The only Dre produced joint on the whole album is American Psycho II which is possibly one of the strongest songs on the album with tight lyrics and a strong beat. Git up , my band , how come are also very good songs .Get my gun just makes me laugh and despite the very large amount of swearing is a very enjoyable song .40 oz is ok , Em's verse is tight as is Proof's ,Keep talkin' reminds me alot of a song that would appear on Devils Night and so my opinion is the best song on the album .Mr Denaun Porter ( producer of 50 cents smash P.I.M.P )also shows off his producing skills with the most emotional rap song i've ever heard, 'Good die young' . This is a real achievement for D12 as they finally speak their true thoughts on the death of ex-member Bugz .It is a very sad song with a good rhythm and i give credit to Mr Porter for producing such a song . Overall the album has some good points but is a missed opportunity at best . Hopefully D12's next album ( if there ever will be one )will sound more like the music they are good at making . I also wish Eminem would start to consider the songs put on his albums which after listening to Encore , isnt that apparant.D12 are a talented group and i hope that people dodnt judge them by the content of THIS album , PLEASE everyone who is reading this review , for a REALLY good , hip hop / Eminem classic , buy DEVILS NIGHT you wont be disappointed !
