4.0 out of 5 stars F1 Reviews for the newer fans, 25 Jul 2004
Being a newer fan hearing about the old Tracks like Watkins Glen and Kayilami and then hearing about the great men who drove around them in teams that dont no longer exist, i've searched for some way to see older Grand Prix , This DVD gives you a review of the season and nothing more .
This DVD doesnt include Qualifying laps , but does show some clips of Qualifying , and the DVD doesnt give you any Crucial info about whats happening apart from telling you who won and came second and third.
If you know and like the other DUKE F1 Reviews then you'll like this.
but dont expect too much info because it only gives you top 3 for nearly every race and it doesnt show you any FULL hotlaps.

I give this a 4 stars because i'm used to these reviews , but if your not used to them i dont think you'll appreciate it as much.

3.0 out of 5 stars The dawn of a new age..., 12 April 2009

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This DVD has the feel of a title which is given as part of a monthly magazine collection, the music and graphics won't dazzle you - but then again you're not buying this disk for the bell and whistles - it's all about the racing...

...The '70s saw Formula One turn from a gentlemanly hobby to a fast and furious international spectacle and in this review of the 1970 season you can can clearly see the transition in effect with the new 'dart' shaped Lotus - the next stage of evolution has arrived!

You don't get any in depth details of the teams or driver, and so for someone like me who has little knowledge of F1pre-1990s you wont learn much. At just under an hour in length there's only room for a few minutes coverage of each race, so what you get is a potted history of the year which builds into an overall picture of how the teams and drivers were performing.

Ian Norris has made efforts to bring some sense of atmosphere to the DVD with his descriptive scene setting, but his flat delivery undoes any attemt to give the narration any energy. 1970 saw the death of three drivers, and other than Jochen Rindt, the deaths are quickly brushed aside; "...the race must go on...". Rindt did go on to win the drivers championship posthumously which makes this a notably unique season.

In a nutshell: I'm pretty safe to assume that most people who watch this will be Formula 1 fans, so like me you'll no doubt find this interesting. Seeing some of the legendary names in action (Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Bruce McLaren, etc) and clips of long established tracks ensures that you get a feel for the history of the sport. The video quality is surprisingly good, but I think that the DVD would have benefited from being longer, and perhaps by containing some special features such as driver/team profiles it would have proven more useful to 'newer' fans like me who know little of this period and want to see more.
