The Sony DAV-SB100 Digital Audio Video System provides a stylish, user-friendly all-in-one solution for your home entertainment, including a compact DVD Video/CD/Receiver and a full specification five-channel satellite speaker system complete with 80w subwoofer. For those that wish to integrate DVD technology within their homes but are confused by the broad range of products and systems available, Sony has developed the ideal one-stop solution. Developed to provide an easy entry into the world of home entertainment, major design considerations of the DAV-SB100 include living room ergonomics plus ease of installation and use. The stylish DVD Video/CD/Receiver with its cool-looking front panel fits neatly under the TV.

The satellite speaker system's towering (326 x 505 x 475mm) active subwoofer unit shares the same stylish design as the main player/receiver and looks completely at home in any living room. Once installed under the TV, users can control the DAV-SB100 from their armchair using the traditional supplied remote commander or operate the unit through an on-screen menu system displayed on the TV. Using either mode, users can watch a DVD, access the additional information placed on the DVD video, adjust detail settings or just listen to a CD or the radio. This amazingly compact unit features an RDS radio tuner with 30 pre-set FM and MW channel settings.

The DAV-SB100 integrates a unique, newly developed digital amplifier, which provides high-power efficiency and low signal distortion at all audio frequencies and output levels. A high signal-to-noise ratio from the digital amplifier provides a warm, natural sound in any domestic setting. Despite its high performance, Sony has succeeded in miniaturising the amplifier, enabling its board-level integration within the main receiver unit, whilst retaining a very slim and stylish profile. This board-mounted digital amplifier creates several advantages in the design of the DAV-SB100--it features lower power consumption than traditional units, requiring a smaller transformer. Cooling fans are not required in the cabinet. The overall effect is to create an amazingly high sound quality from a very compact cabinet. Further, the DAV-SB100 is fitted with Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Digital and DTS decoders.

The surround sound capabilities are superb. The satellite speakers are very small making them unobtrusive in any living room.

The radio quality is excellent, once you replace the supplied aerial (a piece of wire no longer than 50 cm) with a quality coaxial one.

I also like the ability to take in a phono stereo input to use the DVD amplifier. I have connected the stereo output of my digital box so I can listen to normal TV through the DVD speakers (you don't get surround - only stereo).

Also, if you have a Sony TV you can use the DVD remote to control the volume and channel settings.

Apart from the aerial, my only other grip is that the speaker cable for the rears could do with being about 2 metres longer. You can't insert more cable otherwise the distance setting on the DVD player (to delay the sound reaching your ears) is messed up - warns you in the instructions not to do this.

Well recommended bit of kit - especially at the price which at the time was the lowest around circa £140, Currys selling at £199.

What can I say! This is the best cinema kit on the market. The 330 watts that it pumps out is insanely loud. If you were to watch a film like the rock then it will blow you away. The best part of the kit is that it can be used for gaming aswell as watching DVDs. I have a gamecube. This system is amazing when it comes to gaming. Each and every game is on the spot transformed into a new experience when played. If you are thinking of investing in a cinema kit then I assure you that you will not be dissapointed if you were to buy the Sony DAVSB 100. It will annoy the neighbours. I assure you!

Sony has once again created a masterpiece!! This is a first class system which can be used for playing DVD's, CD's, or any external source such as an iPod or an MD Player, or even a computer.
It provides fantastic quality for watching DVD's and the surround sound is just incredible. It is also very user-friendly-I didn't have any problem getting it to work first time, which is impressive as sometimes you have to fiddle around with the speaker connections on these things! Its setup menu is simple and the 5.1 Speaker Setup is great as you can set the levels for each speaker. It therefore provides superb sound quality with the 5 speakers pumping out 50watts each and the massive sub-woofer giving out 80watts of high-quality bass. Overall it pumps out 330watts of brilliant sound and for the price, you will not find a system like it anywhere!!
My only tiny critiscm is that the actual DVD Player part of it is really quite big compared to some of the other ones you can buy. It also doesnt come with a SCart or Video Cable to attach it to the TV which I thought was a bit strange!
However, it is a brilliant system and for the price, it is simply the best your money can buy!
