A dream camera with one problem..., 21 Jan 2005
However, before we come to that, lets get the basics out of the way. Now I normally do alot of research before I buy a product, but in this case I bought it purely on a recommendation from a friend (and after reading these reader reviews on Amazon). Suffice to say, I'm glad I did. This is one incredibly well priced camera. A 6.1 mega pixel camera with the amount of features this thing has for under £200? Yes you really aren't dreaming! Most top of the range 5mp cameras are much more expensive than this and don't have half the features. The camera itself is approximately 4 x 2.5 x 2.0 inches in size and weighs approx 8 ounces. It includes a breathtakingly vivid high resolution 2.3" LCD display. It's extremely comfortable to hold, although is perhaps a bit too bulky to carry around in your pocket. Now onto the picture quality. This is a 6.1 mega pixel camera which effectively means that all pictures and prints will be incredibly detailed and look absolutely stunning. Colours are extremely saturated and lush, the prints were sharp, vivid and amazing, and overall these were the best pictures that I have ever taken - a far cry from my previous Olympus and Sony Cybershot camera. Especially surprising were the quality of night time pics, which, like ones taken during the day, were almost flawless. Flash is very impressive, and 'Red Eyes' are never a problem thanks to the power of the thing. If you do get the red eye effect, you can easily wipe them out using the EasyShare software (which is a marvel in itself while being simple to use). Here's a tip. This camera comes with 18 scene modes. Things like Beach, Night, Snow, Portrait etc. I strongly recommend using the appropiate mode when taking your pic. It really will liven the image up considerably! It's not perfect, however. The internal 32mb memory is a major problem. This is totally insufficient and will only allow you to take and store 15 pictures max. Of course this is at 'fine' resolution on the 6 mega pixel setting, and you could store more pics at a lower quality. But why shoot a 6 mega pixel image at anything less than the highest setting? If buying the item from Amazon, I strongly recommend one of the two memory card accessories. The Bytestor Hi-Speed 256MB (£22) will do the job and allow you to store up to 120 pics in max detail. More than sufficient, I think you will agree. Another minor issue is the 3x optical zoom. You should be aware it is somewhat noisy which effectively renders the zoom usless if shooting movies. This is a non issue for me as I just use it to take pics. Bottom line? This camera has amazing specs and is as powerful of a camera as you'll ever need. I almost deducted a star simply because of its lack of built in memory, but as the camera excells in every other area I decided against it (the memory card accessory is relatively cheap anyway). There are plenty of modes for everyone, the bundled software is easy use, and virtually everything can be adjusted easily. I can't ever image the average camera user requiring anything else for a long long time. Best of all, it's all offered to you at a truly incredible price from Amazon. Buy it now.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy., 3 Jan 2005
Bought the Kodak EasyShare DX7630 digital camera as a gift for my dad and he can't get it off me now. I am not one for technical stuff so be warned. This camera is point and shoot heaven, straight out of the box, charge the battery(3hrs 1st charge)turn on to auto and push the button. That was my 1st photo and it looked great on the generous sized screen, it was then I had a read of the manual to discover all of this cameras virtues. The camera is stuffed with features and feels great to hold, I've got sausage fingers but didn't have a problem with the buttons or jog wheel. If you take a lot of snaps then an optional SD/MMC card is essential as on high definition you get 15 shots with the 32mb internal memory. In fact my only real gripe is that I keep forgetting the lens cap is on!!! I havn't used it with my PC yet as I keep printing the photo's on the printdock, this makes photography fun, point-shoot-print it couldn't be simpler. Please buy this camera from Amazon as you'll save a fortune and also buy the printdock because it will make you smile when your photographic efforts appear before your eyes in under 2 minutes. Overall a great camera for novice and veteran alike and pretty much idiot proof (I am an example). Don't get ripped off, this camera is £349 in Argos, £289 nearly everywhere else but I paid £199 from Amazon which was £15 cheaper than the best web price, these prices were correct up to 01/01/05.

A must buy camera, 12 Aug 2005
I spent over 6 months studying various magazines and reviews such as this, before deciding which digital camera to buy. My budget was £250 but with the price of the DX7630 having come down so much, I was able to buy a 512mb memory card, an extra battery, a case and still be well within my target amount. I have had the Kodak DX7630 for nearly 2 months now I am absolutely delighted with it. In some reviews the way the camera looked was criticised - but who cares when the quality of the photographs it takes is simply stunning. The colours, the sharpness are better than I ever expected and I would recommend this camera to anyone to buy. Simply have the patience to read through the manual and you will reap the benefits with pictures you never thought you were capable of taking.
