After many years of searching for an excellent recording of Le Nozze di Fogaro (i already own five, ranging from the cheap to the astronomically priced), I have finally found a version that doesn't force me into any compromises on enjoyment. Here is a conductor (Halasz) who manages to find the perfect balance between light-hearted humour and dramatic undertone that seems to be so hard to manage, judging by the competition, combined with a cast that seems born to each of the roles, regardless of their distinctly international background. When added to the fact that this comes at a bargain price, is beautifully recorded and is attractively packaged with two extra arias thrown in as an appendix, you can do no better than to get this superb version of a great opera.
