Synopsis

Originally appearing as a comic strip in a childrens' supplement to a Belgian newspaper in 1929, Tintin was written and illustrated by Georges Remi (that is R.G, and subsequently Herge.) In 1992 most of the books were faithfully and painstakingly animated in the spirit of the original adventures. Join the iconic boy reporter Tintin, and his faithful canine sidekick Snowy, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus and The Thompson Twins in this compendium of thrilling Tintin tales.
Contents:
The Cigars of the Pharaoh, The Blue Lotus, Destination Moon, Explorers of the Moon, The Black Island, King Ottokar's Sceptre, The Red Sea Sharks, Tintin in Tibet, The Broken Ear, The Crab with the Golden Claws, Land of Black Gold, The Castafiore Emerald, The Seven Crystal Balls, Prisoners of the Son,
The Calculus Affair, Tintin and the Picaros, Tintin In America, The Shooting Star, Flight 714, The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham's Treasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars A trip down memory lane, 10 Jan 2007
By Kirsten Zara Naudé (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When I saw this box set in the stores on special, I jumped for joy and excitement. For so long I have been trying to collect all the Tin Tin books and videos. And now here are all the episodes on DVD! My husband and I embarked on watching the DVD set, and I began to take a trip down memeory lane. However, much like the other reviewers mentioned, it did not seem as magical this time around. I remember my brother and I waking up early on Saturday mornings when we were younger and planting ourselves in front of the TV at 7:30am, waiting in anticipation for the next episode of the adventures of Tin-Tin. These DVDs probably capture the essence of the adventures of tin-Tin, but alot of what I can remember, especially regarding characters antics, have been ommitted. I dont know whether that is to keep the episodes shorter, or whether it is due to political correctness. The books, I'd say, probably have a more valid representation of what Hergé had in mind. However, it is a definite must for your DVD set and for those rainy days when you want to sit, veg and watch something besides the reality crap on TV these days. Tin-Tin and his friends are still an absolute favourite of mine, and this DVD set has been a very valuable find!

4.0 out of 5 stars Is this the Tintin you remember?, 13 Jan 2006
By Dr D. H. (Surrey, UK) - See all my reviews
The Tintin boxed set is without doubt absoutely fantastic value and very well animated by the traditional process, but if you're looking for the nostalgia of rewatching what you remember from the 70s then you may be left wondering whether it is or isn't the same series. The answer is that it isn't, and has been remade with stories that are more true to the books than the Belvision ones, but I do miss the accents of the characters that I remember as a kid. The Thomsons in particular sound rather loutish compared to their previous "upper class twit" accents of before. Enjoyable nevertheless.

2.0 out of 5 stars Caveat Empor: NOT the Herge's Adventures!, 13 Nov 2008
By C. P. Lewis "Christian Lewis" (Croydon, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Just so no one makes the same mistake I just did, I feel obliged to warn you that these are NOT the Tintin episodes I fondly remember. This is some 90's Canadian remake with awful voice acting. I didn't realise (until now) that the long-lost VHS from my youth that I was hoping to revisit here was of an episode apparently made some time between 1958-63 (The Black Island), ie: the ones that started with the sinister cry of "Herge's Adventures of TINTINNNNN!". From reading some of the other reviews, it would seem some of us have watched this and have consequently doubted our own memories or have just chalked it up to voices being overdubbed. It must be made more clear: No! There are two separate Tintin series'.

That major grumble aside, if you want the 90's remakes, they're all here though without any bonus features.

The discrepancies between the two versions are probably common knowledge to Tintin afficionados, but as an outsider just chancing on a pleasant nostalgia trip, I've now learnt my lesson; in future, I'll do some wikipedia-ing before rushing to the checkout!
