Come on and get happy, 19 Dec 2003
This astounding collection of rarities is worth half the cost purely for the sleeve notes alone - effectively eight A4 pages packed with information about the compilation of the iconic, influential yet short lived Fabulous Forty Chart. 47 tracks are listed on the cover but hidden in between them are classic offshore radio jingles produced in the USA and used by several British based offshore stations, plus many more Radio London exclusive jingles and a host of trailers and humourous ditties produced by Kenny Everett on board the Galaxy. Add to this the famous theme of Big L and the 'My Home Town' song and you have one of the best value packages that any fan of radio's golden age could imagine. Some titles may seem unfamiliar, others will have been missed or forgotten but song after song will transport you to those glorious days of exciting music presented in a dynamic way. The little known David Bowie track that becomes addictive, the mighty 'Sticks and Stones' from the Warm Sounds - a classic tune which always cried out for a solid lyric, the plaintive Jagger and Richard song performed by Nicky Scott 'Back Street Girl' and Big L's final Number One song by The Tremeloes interestingly presented here in its album version and the only seemingly non-original hit single. There is no doubt that Castle Music have produced a masterpiece which should be widely publicised throughout the solid base of avid listeners to oldies programmes and watery wireless. Own a piece of history, of magic and of supreme quality. You will not be disappointed with an investment in this merry-go- round of musical fun - The London Sound - Still Wonderful....

A Time Tripper, 4 Jun 2004
Just bought this album today and couldn't wait to get on line to tell the world about it.A wonderful collection of jingles, soundbites and hits of that groovy era. Was listening to it while making the supper and it was 1966 again! A really excellent collection of songs...from corny (The Searchers) to super-cool (Help Me Girl: The Animals)...to great rarities 'I Go To Sleep' and that groovy Bowie number 'I Dig Everything'. I love British pop of the mid-sixties but usually I'm disappointed by compilation CD's, so I wasn't expecting much of this and I bought it rather half-heartedly...but fear not, it's terrific. Congratulations to all involved in it's compilation...hopefully there'll be a follow up.
